Systems, methods, and methods of fabricating can provide an axially symmetric high-density beamforming architecture. The beamforming architecture can include pluralities of symmetric beamforming layers having integrated electronics. The beamforming layers can be incrementally rotated and stacked with respect to each other in three-dimensions (3D) to provide a high-density topology capable of forming thousands of beams in a phased array antenna. The beamforming layers provide signal/beam pathways from a group (or sub-group) of signal interfaces on an input side of the beamforming layer to a corresponding group of signal interfaces on an output side of the beamforming layer. The beamforming architecture can also include a plurality of beam routing layers that mate with the plurality of beamforming layers to route the signals from a plurality of input beamforming layers to a plurality of output beamforming layers.

Axially symmetric high-density beamforming topology

An electronically aligned wideband tracking modulator system is described. The wide band tracking modulator system comprises a waveguide coupled to an antenna. The wide band tracking modulator system also comprises waveguide tuning circuitry configured to convert RF energy from a waveguide of the wideband tracking modulator system into an RF signal that can be processed by the waveguide tuning circuitry. The waveguide tuning circuitry is also configured to shift a phase of the RF signal. The waveguide tuning circuitry is further configured to convert the phase-shifted RF signal into phase-shifted RF energy and return the phase-shifted RF energy to the waveguide to electrically align the wideband tracking modulator system.

A distributed beamforming system including a platform terminal and a plurality of user terminals is disclosed. An individual user terminal includes a receiver configured to receive a plurality of individual wireless signals, where the plurality of individual wireless signals are transmitted by the platform terminal and are orthogonal with respect to one another. The individual user terminal also includes one or more frequency converters configured to transform each of the plurality of individual wireless signals to an intermediate frequency. The individual user terminal is configured to coherently combine the plurality of individual wireless signals together to form a beamformed signal.

Distributed beamforming system with user side beamforming processing

A distributed beamforming system includes a platform terminal and a plurality of user terminals. The platform terminal includes an antenna array including a plurality of antenna elements. Each antenna element transmits a wide-area beam configured to encompass each of the plurality of user terminals. The platform terminal also includes one or more processors in electronic communication with the antenna array and a memory coupled to the one or more processors. The memory stores data into a database and program code that, when executed by the one or more processors, causes the platform terminal to receive an incoming signal and split the incoming signal into a plurality of individual wireless signals. Each individual wireless signal corresponds to one of the plurality of antenna elements of the antenna array. The system also transmits the plurality of individual wireless signals to the user terminal by the antenna array.

Disclosed is a system for measuring multi-port amplifier errors ('SME') of a multi-port power amplifier ('MPA'), where the MPA has a plurality of input ports and a plurality of output ports. The SME may include at least one input coupler, an output array of couplers, an input switch network, an output switch network, and a combiner.

A communication system including a communication platform, and a downlink communication module connected to the communication platform and having a matrix power amplifier, the matrix power amplifier including an input hybrid matrix, an output hybrid matrix, a bank of high power amplifiers disposed between and in communication with at least the input hybrid matrix and the output hybrid matrix, and a bank of adjusters disposed between and in communication with at least the input hybrid matrix and the output hybrid matrix. The communication system further includes a driver circuit connected to each adjuster in the bank of adjusters, the driver circuit being configured to command each adjuster to modify communication signals, passing through the matrix power amplifier, at time division multiple access rates.

Disclosed is a multi-port power amplifier ('MPA') having an input hybrid matrix ('IHM'), an output hybrid matrix (&#x201c;OHM&#x201d;), and a plurality of high-power amplifier (&#x201c;HPA&#x201d;) chains. The MPA may include a plurality of adjustable delay modules (&#x201c;ADMs&#x201d;) in signal communication with the IHM and the plurality of HPA chains. Each adjustable delay module (&#x201c;ADM&#x201d;) of the plurality of ADMs may be in signal communication with the IHM and a corresponding HPA chain of the plurality of HPA chains.
