An example method includes receiving a first set of incident information associated with the public safety incident, receiving a second set of responder information associated with at least one public safety personnel, correlating, by using a public safety recommendation engine, the first set of incident information and the second set of responder information with one or more other sets of public safety incident information and responder information associated with prior incidents, identifying, by the public safety recommendation engine, at least one correlated mobile device action from mobile device actions associated with a subset of prior public safety incidents, and causing the correlated mobile device action to be at least one of presented as a recommendation on the corresponding mobile device and performed by the corresponding mobile device.

The dual-band radio initiates a narrowband wireless link with the wireless system via a first narrowband antenna of the self-positionable wireless device and a second narrowband antenna of the wireless system. A navigation system generates location, velocity and error estimate of the self-positionable wireless device. The location is transmitted to the wireless system using the narrowband wireless link. The self-positionable wireless device receives via the narrowband wireless link location, velocity and error estimate of the wireless system. The self-positionable wireless device establishes a directional broadband wireless link with the wireless system using the location, velocity and error estimate of the self-positionable wireless system and the wireless system.

A server that communicates with a remote device in a machine to machine wireless communication network. The server includes an input/output interface, a processor, and a memory. The memory stores a context-aware dictionary manager executable by the processor, and a contextual correlations database having a plurality of correlations. The context-aware dictionary manager is configured to establish a current context associated with the remote device, search the contextual correlations database using the current context, identify a correlation match with the current context and one of the plurality of correlations, and communicate, via the input/output interface, the entry associated with the correlation match to the remote device for adding to a dictionary at the remote device. Also disclosed is a method of finding and maintaining correlations in the machine to machine system.

Retail items movable from an inventory location at a retail venue through a portal to a retail exit are automatically tracked. The items are individually associated with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. An RFID tag reader has an array of antennas for generating a multitude of scan beams at an adjustable scan rate. A first set of the beams covers the inventory location, and a second set of the beams covers the portal to determine an exit characteristic of the items that have exited the retail venue. A point-of-sale workstation at the retail venue is operative, independently of the tag reader, for determining a sold characteristic of the items that have been sold. A controller dynamically adjusts the scan rate of the first and second sets of scan beams to an optimal scan rate as a function of the determined exit and sold characteristics.

A technique for modifying radio frequency identification (RFID) system operation using movement detection includes an RFID scanner disposed within an environment and operable to obtain RFID data from RFID tags located within the environment. An imaging device captures video of the environment, and a processor analyzes the captured video from the imaging device to detect and locate movement within the environment. If movement is detected within the environment, the processor modifies operation of the RFID scanner that is proximal to the location of the movement, increasing or decreasing interrogation rate, for example.

An inventory monitoring controller maintains information reflecting a current inventory of articles based on radio frequency identification (RFID) tag identifying information received from one or more RFID tag readers in the context of inventory polling operations. In an embodiment, the controller also adjusts an operational parameter (e.g., a missing article detection threshold or a variable polling parameter) based on an analysis of the RFID tag identifying information. For example, a variable polling parameter may be adjusted in response to an occurrence of a triggering event (e.g., an inventory change indicated by the RFID tag identifying information or an occurrence of a temporal event), and a missing article detection threshold may be adjusted based on historical information relating to the detection of (or failure to detect) a particular RFID tag.

RFID-based inventory monitoring systems and methods with self-adjusting operational parameters

A method for bearer reservation, maintenance, and use in a communication system is performed by an intermediary function (IF) in the enterprise network. The IF processes a user plane reservation request for a flow of user plane data from a sourcing device, and determines a set of bearers to transport the flow of user plane data. The IF requests from at least one access network the determined set of bearers, and receives from the at least one access network an allocated set of bearers, wherein the allocated set of bearers comprises one or more bearers. The IF receives the flow of user plane data from the sourcing device. The IF receives an indication that at least one of the bearers in the allocated set of bearers is unavailable, and prevents at least a portion of the flow of user plane data from being transmitted over the default bearer.

Methods for bearer reservation, maintenance, and use in a communication system

Polling operations performed by a reader may be adjusted by a server. The server determines at least one of volatility measurements or polling operation parameters based on information obtained from components within an automated inventory tracking system. The automated inventory tracking system is part of an inventory management system. The server also obtains volatility measurements from another system within the inventory management system. The server incorporates the volatility measurements obtained from the other system, at least one of the volatility measurements or the polling operation parameters determined by the server, and power usage information associated with the reader into a periodic calculation to determine optimal polling parameters. The server periodically sends the optimal polling parameters to the reader for adjustment to a polling operation performed by the reader within a coverage area.
