A keyboard support system includes a chassis. A keyboard base is mounted to the chassis. A keyboard is coupled to the keyboard base. A tensioning device is coupled to the chassis and the keyboard base, and the tensioning device is adjustable to produce a tension in the keyboard base in order to reduce the deflection of the keyboard that occurs when keys on the keyboard are depressed.

A component bay system includes a first component bay having a first bay chassis coupling member and first bay stacking member. The system also includes a second component bay having a second bay chassis coupling member. The first bay chassis coupling member is operable to couple to a chassis by engaging the chassis. The second bay chassis coupling member is operable to couple to either of the chassis, by engaging the chassis, and to the first component bay, by engaging the first bay stacking member. In an embodiment, the first component bay and the second component bay are identical and allow the component bay system to be added to a chassis to support multiple configurations for modular components.

A riser retention apparatus includes a board. A component connector is mounted to the board. A support frame is coupled to the board adjacent the component connector and extends from the board. A riser guide is located on the support frame and operable to engage a riser and guide a riser connector on the riser toward the component connector. A riser retention member is operable to couple to the support frame to provide a retaining force to a riser in order to retain the riser connector in engagement with the component connector. A riser including a plurality of components coupled to it may be coupled to the component connector and the support frame and riser retention member may be used to support the riser and retain the riser in the component connector.

A modular component securing apparatus includes a chassis, a securing member moveably coupled to the chassis and including an activation surface, a biasing member coupled to the securing member and operable to bias the securing member into a deactivated position, a component detection member coupled to the securing member and operable to move the securing member relative to the chassis and into an activated position in response to the component detection member being engaged by a modular component, and an activation member including an activator surface. In response to the securing member being moved into the activated position, the activator surface may engage the activation surface in order to move the securing member relative to the chassis and into a securing position. The securing member may be moved into the securing position only when a modular component is positioned in the chassis.

Method and apparatus for securing a modular component in a chassis

An information handling system lid releases from an associated housing with an actuator that frees the lid and then pushes the lid from a secured position to an unsecured position for ease of removal. The actuator rotationally couples through the housing to translate a user rotation of the actuator to open and then move the lid. On the interior of the housing, the actuator is a cam having a latch push and an inclined surface. The latch push moves a latch to an open position upon initial movement of the actuator and holds the latch in the open position to release a latch catch of the lid and allow movement of the lid. The inclined surface pushes against a lid removal protrusion extending from the lid and moves the lid an increasing distance as the actuator turns to complete release of the lid from the housing by sliding hooks of the lid from slots of the housing.

System and method for an information handling system housing lid release

A blank expansion card adjusts to selected widths within an information handling system expansion card bay having horizontally aligned connectors in order to provide support to an adjacent expansion card. The blank expansion card has a base that couples with an expansion card connector, a body extending from the base along a side wall of the expansion card bay, and an adjustable member that extends from the body an adjustable distance to engage the adjacent expansion card and ensure that the expansion card remains in position against an opposing side wall of the expansion card bay. The adjustable member essentially adjusts the width of the expansion card bay to snuggly fit expansion cards of varying width by extending from or retracting into a housing of the expansion card blank body.

Information handling system expandable blank card insert system and method

A processor retainer assembly prevents inadvertent removal of a processor from a circuit board socket by forces exerted on an information handling system that are translated from a heat sink to the processor by the coupling of thermal grease between the heat sink and the processor. A retention frame couples to a motherboard around the processor socket to support movement of the processor retainer between open and closed positions. A securing device hinge rotationally couples the processor retainer to the retention frame and a securing device latch locks the processor retainer in the closed position to restrict movement of the processor from the socket. A heat sink contacts the processor through an opening in the processor retainer. Heat sink supports extending from the retention frame engage the heat sink so that a single processor retainer assembly retains the processor in the socket and the heat sink proximate to the processor.

Processor retention system and method

An information handling system such as a computer can be mounted in a secure and accessible manner. A bracket is attached to a support surface. A mounting member is releasably attached to a computer chassis in one of a plurality of orientations. The mounting member and computer chassis are movably mounted on the bracket. A security cover is attached onto the computer chassis for restricting movement of the mounting member on the bracket. The security cover is locked onto the computer chassis.

A heat sink retention apparatus includes a frame for supporting a heat sink. A plurality of flexible members extend from opposite ends of the frame. Each flexible member includes a retention tab and one of the retention tabs includes a retraction tab. A heat sink is snapped-into the frame by engaging either of the retention tabs and flexing the other retention tab. The retraction tab can be flexed to disengage one of the retention tabs for extracting the heat sink from the frame.

A computer chassis includes a door mounted on the chassis. A hinge pivotally interconnects the door and the chassis. The hinge has a first end connected to the chassis and a second end connected to the door. A pair of spaced apart resilient receivers are provided on the chassis. A cam extension on the hinge is engaged for flexing the resilient receivers in response to pivotal movement of the hinge.

A heat sink retention apparatus includes a frame having a first end and a second end. A rotatable shaft is mounted on the frame. A heat sink retention arm is provided on the shaft and is rotatable with the shaft between a lock position and an unlock position. A driven member is provided on the shaft. The driven member includes a slot and a plurality of grooves. A rotatable driving member is mounted on the frame adjacent the driven member. A tab on the driving member engages the slot for rotating the driven member in response to rotation of the driving member. A plurality of arcuate members on the driving member engage the grooves in response to rotation of the driving member. As a result, the retention arm is movable between the lock position and the unlock position.

A computer chassis door includes a door mounted on the chassis and a hinge pivotally connecting the door on the chassis. The hinge and door have a break-away connection including a pair of spaced apart resilient snap tabs and a snap-in member engaged with the snap tabs.
