An absorbent article having improved handling of body exudates. The absorbent article can minimize the amount of body exudates in contact with a wearer's skin and can minimize the incidence of leakage of body exudates from the absorbent article. In one aspect, the absorbent article comprises a body facing material having a first layer and a second layer with fibers of the layers entangled with each other. The body facing material can further comprise projections and land areas adjacent to the projections along with apertures in the land area.

The absorbent article can minimize the amount of body exudates in contact with a wearer's skin and can minimize the incidence of leakage of body exudates from the absorbent article. In one example, the article can include an outer cover, a body facing material, and an absorbent body. The body facing material can include a plurality of projections with a land area disposed between the plurality of projections, wherein the land area has an open area greater than about 10% open area in a chosen area.

An absorbent article having improved handling of body exudates can include a fluid-entangled body facing material including a support layer and a projection layer. The fluid-entangled body facing material can include a plurality of hollow projections formed from a first plurality of fibers in the projection layer. The hollow projections can extend from the outer surface of the projection layer in a direction away from the support layer. The absorbent article can minimize the amount of body exudates in contact with a wearer's skin and can minimize the incidence of leakage of body exudates from the absorbent article.

A method of manufacturing an absorbent article includes directing a web of side panel material and a waist elastic material separate from the web of side panel material to travel. The waist elastic material is bonded to the web of side panel material. The web of side panel material having the waist elastic material bonded thereto is cut to form a side panel having a waistband portion. The side panel having the waistband portion is attached to a chassis.

The plurality of elastic members is symmetrically arranged about the gap defined by the web. A method is presented for manufacturing a disposable absorbent article having multiple components including selecting a first material appropriate for use as an outer cover; producing a chassis including the outer cover, the outer cover including an outer cover central region having an outer cover central region appearance; selecting a second material appropriate for use as an elastic panel, wherein the second material is different from the first material; and producing a first elastic panel having a first elastic panel central region. The method also includes printing the first elastic panel central region with a first elastic panel printed graphic; and attaching the first elastic panel to the chassis, wherein the selecting and printing are performed such that the first elastic panel central region gives the appearance of being substantially similar to the outer cover central region appearance.

An absorbent article includes a liquid pervious liner, a liquid impervious back sheet, and an absorbent composite located between the liner and the back sheet. The absorbent composite includes a first sheet, a second sheet, and a unitary absorbent core. The unitary absorbent core has a plurality of holes there through, wherein each hole has an area less than 200 mm. The unitary absorbent core has a uniform density and is positioned between the first sheet and the second sheet. The first sheet is directly joined with the second sheet at a plurality of bond points. The bond points are located within the holes and are substantially devoid of absorbent material.

An absorbent article has first and second waist regions that define transversely opposite sides extending a length Lp from a waist opening to a leg opening. A disposal tab has an attachment region extending a greatest length La along at least a portion of the length Lp. The article includes a primary fastening system for releasably attaching the first and second waist regions. The article further includes a disposal tab having an attachment region in the second waist region that extends a greatest length La along at least a portion of the length Lp. The disposal tab includes a tab region that extends transversely outward from the attachment region and is attachable to the article in at least the disposal configuration. The disposal tab comprises a fastening component in the tab region and a base substrate that is releasably attachable to a hook material of the primary fastening system.

Facetted impression elements are disclosed. The impression elements can be located, for instance, on an anvil roll and may be used during an embossing or bonding process. The impression elements include at least two chamfered surfaces that at least partially surround the top surface. The chamfered surfaces are at an angle to the top surface that lower and reduce drag that may occur between the impression element and a sheet of material as the impression element enters and exits the sheet. In one embodiment, the impression element includes a first chamfered surface having an angle of from about 5&#xb0; to about 40&#xb0; and a second chamfered surface having an angle of from about 40&#xb0; to about 70&#xb0;.
