A vent arrangement is provided to a mask or associated conduit to discharge exhaled gas from the mask to atmosphere. The vent arrangement is structured to diffuse the exhaust vent flow to produce less air jetting, thereby increasing the comfort of the patient and their bed partner. For example, the vent arrangement may include one or more grill components and/or media constructed and arranged to diffuse vent flow.

A nasal assembly for delivering breathable gas to a patient includes a frame having lateral connector, a cushion with a pair of nozzles, and a clip to secure the cushion to the frame. The frame includes a vent channel and a plurality of vent holes. The frame/cushion includes structure (lugs/cut outs) to prevent the assembly of an unvented frame with an unvented cushion, for safety purposes. The frame includes cored portions that interface with corner lugs provided on the cushion. A patient interface includes a frame, a cushion (nasal mask, nasal-oro mask, nozzles, etc.) and a vent assembly including a pattern of vent holes including at least two rows.

Nasal assembly

A mask cushion or a mask assembly therewith provides a comfortable and effective seal for provision of a gas therapy by a respiratory treatment apparatus. The mask cushion may be integrated with or coupled to a mask frame. The mask cushion typically includes an inner cushion component. The mask cushion also includes a patient facial-contact side portion with a chamber and a barrier to form the chamber that may be flexible. The chamber may serve as an outer layer with respect to the inner cushion component. The chamber may be partially or completely filled with a gas, fluid or gel. The inner cushion may be formed with a soft flexible material such as an elastomer or foam, etc. The barrier may be a membrane and may also be soft flexible material.

A breathing assistance device includes a gas regulating valve (). The gas regulating valve is operated by a linear actuator (). The linear actuator may include a movable member that moves an obstruction member between an open position and a closed position. The linear actuator is isolated from a gas flow path through the valve.

A mask system for delivering air pressurized above atmospheric pressure to the airways of a patient to treat sleep disordered breathing (SDB) by continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) may include a mask having a cushion configured to form a seal with the patient's nose; two inlet conduits, each of the two inlet conduits configured to extend from a position superior to the patient's head and along a corresponding side of the patient's head, and each of the two inlet conduits being in fluid communication with a corresponding side of the mask to deliver pressurized air to the mask; a first vent arrangement configured to be positioned superior to the patient's head in use and configured to discharge gas to atmosphere during therapy; and a second vent arrangement configured to be positioned inferior to the first vent arrangement in use and configured to discharge gas to atmosphere during therapy.

A swivel elbow for a mask assembly includes an elbow adapted to be provided to the mask assembly and a swivel detachably connected to the elbow. The elbow includes a plurality of spaced apart rings that provide a controlled clearance between the elbow and an interior surface of the swivel.

Respiratory mask cushion

An elbow for a mask system includes a proximal end adapted to be provided to the mask system, a distal end adapted to be provided to an air delivery conduit, and a baffle provided within the proximal end. The baffle has a generally planar configuration that defines an intake port that directs incoming air from the air delivery conduit into a mask cavity and an exhaust port separated from the intake port that directs exhaust air from the mask cavity to atmosphere. The baffle includes an end portion that is adapted to extend into the mask cavity defined by the mask system.

Elbow for mask system

A respiratory mask includes a frame and a flexible structure provided to the frame and adapted to engage a patient's face. The flexible structure includes a chamber filled with a first gel and a second gel that is relatively harder than the first gel. A ratio of height of the first gel to the second gel in a lip region is in the range of about 0.25 to about 0.6.
