A method of in situ ultrasonic flow meter validation includes receiving data characterizing first signal diagnostics and data characterizing a first speed of a first acoustic signal through a gas mixture along a first path in a pipe. The first speed of the first acoustic signal is detected by a first channel of an ultrasonic flow meter including a first pair of transducers that are separated by a first path length of the first path. The gas mixture is configured to flow along a flow path in the pipe. The method also includes determining a status associated with the ultrasonic flow meter based on the data characterizing the first signal diagnostics and/or a difference between the first speed of the first acoustic signal and an independently calculated speed of sound. The speed of sound is calculated based on one or more properties of the gas mixture.

In situ ultrasonic flow meter validation

A system for flare combustion control includes a sound speed measurement device for measuring sound speed in a flare vent gas, and a flare combustion controller including a memory and a processor. The processor is configured to receive the measured sound speed and determine, based on the measured sound speed, a molecular weight of the flare vent gas. The processor is further configured to determine, based on the determined molecular weight, a net heating value of the flare vent gas, and adjust the net heating value of the flare vent gas by regulating an amount of a supplemental fuel gas in the flare vent gas.

Integrated flare combustion control

A control circuit is described for sensing and correcting deviations in speed of a turbine-generator. The control circuit compares actual turbine speed with a speed reference signal and provides a non-linear speed control signal to the turbine. The non-linear speed control signal is characterized by a first substantially constant slope for deviations in speed below a preselected deviation and a second substantially greater slope for deviations in speed above the preselected deviation. Substantially improved power system frequency regulation is thereby maintained.

Non-linear dual mode regulator circuit

An apparatus for monitoring whether the combustion system of a gas turbine is working properly includes an annular array of temperature sensors disposed in the gas turbine to monitor the temperature of the hot gas stream at a plurality of spaced positions and a temperature sensor disposed in the gas turbine to monitor the temperature of the compressor discharge flow, a digital computer, a circuit to input signals indicative of the sensed temperatures of a selected sensor to the digital computer, and a circuit for selecting the temperature sensor to be sampled. The digital computer is programmed to sequentially sample the hot gas stream sensors and to determine the median temperature thereof, compute allowable temperture limits as a function of the median temperature and the compressor discharge temperature, and to output a shutdown or alarm signal when a predetermined number of hot gas stream temperature sensors exceed the allowable limits in a predetermined pattern.

Combustion monitor

An arrangement for determining the validity of temperature sensor readings of a gas turbine hot gas stream which includes means for comparing each reading to predetermined bounds. The temperature sensors are arranged so that a temperature streak caused by a combustion system malfunction would affect more than one sensor. In some cases, when a suspect reading is identified, the readings from adjacent sensors are examined before the suspect reading is rejected.
