A map-based graphical user interface (GUI) for a social media platform provides a map window that displays an interactive map that is movable within the map window responsive to user input. User icons for respective friend users of a user associated with a client device on which the map-based GUI is generated are displayed in the map window at respective locations on the interactive map. A predefined portion of the map window defines a focus area. Context information for respective friend users are automatically surface for those friend icons located within the focus area, while such context information are automatically omitted or de-surfaced for those friend icons outside of the focus area.

Aspects of the present disclosure involve a system comprising a storage medium storing a program and method for rule-based sharing of content collections. The program and method provide for storing, in association with each content collection, a set of rules with first criteria for adding a content item to the content collection, and with second criteria for viewing the content collection; determining, for a first content collection, that the respective first criteria is met for a first user of a first device; providing, based on the determining, for the first user to generate the content item; adding the generated content item to the first content collection; determining, for the first content collection, that the respective second criteria is met for a second user of a second device; and providing, based on the determining, the first content collection to the second device for viewing by the second user.

The program and method provide for maintaining a count of consecutive time periods in which message content has been exchanged between a first user and a second user in a messaging application; receiving, from a device associated with the first user, a request to set an availability mode for the first user to a reduced availability mode with respect to the messaging application; setting, in response to receiving the request, the availability mode for the first user to the reduced availability mode; and refraining from updating the count while the availability mode is set to the reduced availability mode.

The program and method provide for receiving an indication of user input provided by a first user, the user input comprising a text-based term for updating a message thread between the first user and a second user; determining that the text-based term is included within a set of predefined terms, each predefined term within the set of predefined terms having corresponding replacement content for including in the message thread, the replacement content having been specified by the first or second user with respect to messages exchanged between the first and second user; and providing, in response to the determining and based on the set of predefined terms, the replacement content corresponding to the text-based term within the message thread.

Methods and systems are disclosed for presenting profile pages. For example, a messaging application implemented on a client device receives a request to access a page of the messaging application and identifies a first web-based application that is linked to the page of the messaging application. The messaging application obtains a first application fragment corresponding to the first web-based application and identifies a data field of the first application fragment that corresponds to information being presented on the page of the messaging application. The messaging application populates the data field of the first application fragment by sending a message from the messaging application to the first web-based application. The messaging application adds, to the page of the messaging application, a visual representation of the first application fragment comprising the populated data field.

Methods and systems are disclosed for modifying an image. For example, a messaging application implemented on a client device displays an image comprising a real-world object and determines a current location of the client device. The messaging application identifies a venue associated with the current location of the client device and obtains a list of items available for purchase at the venue. The messaging application receives input that selects a given item from the list of items that corresponds to the real-world object. The messaging application adds, to the image, a graphical representation of the given item that corresponds to the real-world object depicted in the image.

One embodiment involves accessing location information, map data icon information, and action indicator information associated with an account of a social media platform. The program and method provide for determining a display order for multiple icons, each icon corresponding to a user of a messaging application having a content collection available for display; receiving, from a device, an indication to prioritize display of a selected icon of the multiple icons relative to other icons of the multiple icons; updating, in response to receiving the indication, the display order to prioritize display of the selected icon relative to the other icons; and providing, to the device, an indication of the updated display order to cause the multiple icons to be displayed according to the updated display order.
