Hybrid subtractive-additive production of a superconducting multi-layer transition-edge sensor includes: forming a superconductor layer; forming a patterning photoresist on the superconductor layer; forming a sensor pattern in the patterning photoresist; subtractively forming, from the superconductor layer, the superconductor sensor layer; removing the patterning photoresist from the superconductor sensor layer; forming a template photoresist on the superconductor sensor layer; forming an inverse normal metal layer pattern in the template photoresist and exposing a bilayer portion of the superconductor sensor layer for addition of a normal metal layer; and additively forming the normal metal layer on the superconductor sensor layer such that the sensor pattern is interposed between the normal metal layer and the substrate.

A process for making a recessed carbon nanotube bolometer includes forming a substrate on a base; forming a radiation well in the substrate; forming carbon nanotubes in the well; disposing a cover on the wells; and forming a thermistor and a heater on the base.

An x-ray spectrometer includes: an x-ray plasma source that produces first x-rays; an x-ray optic in optical communication with the x-ray plasma source and that: receives the first x-rays from the x-ray plasma source; focuses the first x-rays to produce second x-rays; and communicates the second x-rays to a sample that produces product x-rays in response to receipt of the second x-rays and second light; and a microcalorimeter array detector in optical communication with the sample and that receives the product x-rays from the sample.

X-ray spectrometer

A toilet bowl overflow prevention device is provided including a rigid interconnect member having a top end adapted for being pivotally connected to a knob assembly of a toilet assembly. The interconnect member is adapted for forcing a flush valve of the toilet assembly into sealed abutment with a drain aperture of the toilet assembly when the knob assembly is rotated in a direction opposite of that associated with removing the flush valve from engagement with the drain aperture.
