An automated access control apparatus and method. Identification data is compared with stored data to determine if a person should be granted access to an area. If granted access, the person is prompted to indicate a number of guests desiring access. As the person and the guests pass through entrance, the persons are counted and proper personnel is notified if an unauthorized number of persons enters the area. Unauthorized entries are recorded as image data that can be played in real time or at a later time for review. Guest entry is logged for billing purposes.

Access control method and apparatus for members and guests

A monitoring and communication system for monitoring a supervised person is provided. The system includes a preferably portable personal communication device (PCD), e.g., a portable telephone, and further includes a computer system which stores a contact plan for the supervised person and which is in two-way communication with the PCD. The computer system, using an automated phone call routine, automatically initiates the transmission of electronic voice messages or inquiries to the supervised person's PCD. The computer system records responses transmitted by the supervised person's PCD back to the computer system. The system can contact the supervised person anywhere within a service area. The supervised person responds to one or more questions or requests from the computer system by pressing appropriate keys on the PCD, thereby transmitting responses. The responses are recorded by the computer system. If the computer system does not receive a response from the supervised person's PCD or if the responses do not fall within compliance guidelines, the contact plan is forwarded to personnel for either follow up contact or to or provide other assistance. Responses, or the lack thereof, may also be forward to a third party; for example, in the case of the supervised person being a child, the third party may be a parent of the child.

Monitoring and communication system for stationary and mobile persons

A device includes first and second clamps each having an upper arm and a lower arm, and a cutting blade attached to one of the clamps. According to the invention, the upper arms of the first and second clamps are each provided with an upper clamping surface, and a directing member having a deformable cord gripping surface. The lower arms of the first and second clamps are each provided with a lower clamping surface, and a cord gripping surface. The clamping surfaces function to occlude the flow of blood through cut ends of the cord after the cord is cut by the blade, while the cord gripping surfaces function to prevent cord slippage prior to clamping by the clamping surfaces. Preferred gripping surfaces include deformable foam or resilient strips provided with teeth.

An access control apparatus and method. Enrollment is conducted at a centralized server and enrollment data, such as identification data is downloaded to plural local access units at respective entrances to a restricted area. The local access units then collect data of a person upon an attempted entry in to the area and compare the data with downloaded enrollment data to determine if the person is authorized for access. If the person is authorized, an access control device is operated to open a door, gate, or the like of the entrance. The enrollment data can be biometric data and the same type or different type of biometric data can be collected at the local access units. If a different type of data is collected at the local access units and is correlated to data stored on the local access unit, data of the same type as the downloaded data is collected and compared to the downloaded data for access control. The enrollment data can be non environmentally affected data, such as fingerprint parameter data and the different type of data can be environmentally affected data, such as facial parameter data.
