On-board heat dissipation can be achieved in radio frequency (RF) modules by integrating a heat sink into the RF module's antenna reflector. Said integration achieves a compact and aesthetically pleasing RF module design that reduces the overall footprint of modular active antenna systems (AASs). Embodiment antenna reflectors include portions that are perforated and/or exposed to free flowing air to provide enhanced heat dissipation capability.

Heat dissipation in vertically arrayed host device configurations can be improved through inclusion of heat sinks having split-stream fin architectures. The split-stream fin architecture includes two or more sets of angled fins separated by a central conduit, which allows for more efficient inflow and/or expulsion of convection cooling air over the heat sink. The split-stream fin arrangement may include inwardly angled fins in order to draw convection cooling air inwards from horizontal inlets, in which case warm exhaust is expelled through the central conduit. Conversely, the split-stream fin arrangement may include outwardly angled fins, which draw convection cooling air from the central conduit, and expel warm air through horizontal exhausts. The split-stream fin arrangements function well when host devices are configured horizontally, which allows for more flexible host device configurations.

Apparatus and method for an active antenna heat sink

An improved enclosure for housing communications and electronics equipment comprises a heating element fabricated with a positive temperature coefficient material. The enclosure is particularly useful for housing communications equipment and cell site base stations for cellular telephone systems in the outdoors; it has self-regulating heating capabilities that are not dependent upon voltage parameters, thereby enabling its use in diverse geographic locations. In a preferred embodiment, a plurality of PTC heating elements are used and selectively located adjacent a plurality of circuitry regions. DC power may be used to energize the PTC heaters, and the enclosure may be used for telephone equipment operating with AC or DC power.

Device for housing communication and electronic equipment using positive temperature coefficient material

A combination fastener for attaching a cellular phone base station to a mounting bracket includes alignment and spacing features. The alignment features ensure that a door of the base station will be properly aligned when the door closed. The spacing features ensure that a gasket for the door will be placed under proper compression by the closed door.

A sealable container having a container body, a cover forming a right angle movably connected to the container body, at least one alignment piece and corresponding alignment bracket, and at least one tension lock connected to the container body. When the container is closed, a conical alignment pin on the alignment bracket engages the conical hole and the tension lock engages the cover in a single action to provide alignment and sealing force to compress and seal enclosures between the cover and the container body simultaneously in two perpendicular planes.

A mounting bracket for attaching a cellular phone base station to a fixed object includes adjustment devices so that the base station may be accurately directed, or aimed, after installation. The bracket is C-shaped and provides a rigidifying skeletal frame for an electrical box housing the base station. By this arrangement, the box can be constructed relatively smaller and lighter than previously known boxes for such base stations. The bracket also includes structural features which cooperate with the box to enable the box to be installed by a single service technician.

Adjustable mounting bracket

An enclosure according to this invention comprises a thermally conductive wall mountable to a heat source. The enclosure is mounted such that heat transfers from the heat source to the thermally conductive wall. A bracket holds the item to be heated to at least one of the walls of the enclosure, such that the item is warmed by thermal conduction. A thermal pad may be interposed between the item and the mounting wall and, likewise, between the enclosure and the heat source. By this structure, heat is passed from the heat source to the enclosure and then to the item.

Thermally conductive enclosure for a battery

An enclosure containing heat generating electrical components is provided with exterior heat fins and is enclosed within a perforated cover. The heat fins are generally planar and parallel to define vertical channels between adjacent pairs of fins. The fins are formed with a plurality of aligned notches to define a plurality of horizontal channels. The perforations in the cover are arrayed along a plurality of horizontal lines, with at least one of the horizontal lines overlying each of the horizontal channels.

Heat dissipating structure for an electrical assembly

The present invention is an enclosure with a cooling scheme for cooling heat producing devices, such as electronic components, contained within the enclosure. Specifically, the cooling scheme of the present invention shelters the enclosure from solar heat without significantly decreasing the efficiency of the convection process associated with heat sinks. In an embodiment of the present invention, the enclosure comprises a housing and a solar shield. The housing includes a plurality of heat sinks for absorbing and dissipating heat generated by the devices. Each heat sink has an interior side to which the devices are mounted and an exterior side with a plurality of fins that form first and second channels. The first channels are aligned longitudinally with the prevalent direction of airflow, and the second channels are aligned in a contrasting manner to the first channels to allow fresh air to be drawn into the first channels (through the second channels) during the convection process. Positioned over the heat sinks is the solar shield for sheltering the housing from solar heat. The solar shield includes ventilators which align with the first and second channels for allowing the passage of air into the heat sinks and heat absorbed by the heat sinks to be dissipated. To prevent overcooling, the solar shield may include regulating devices positioned over the ventilators to constrict airflow through the ventilators when the enclosure is below a particular temperature.
