A hydraulic control unit (HCU) assembly, for an electro-hydraulic limited slip differential system for a vehicle, includes a support bracket configured to couple to an underbody of the vehicle in a location remote from a live axle assembly of the vehicle, and an HCU including an integrated accumulator and reservoir assembly, a control valve assembly, and a motor and hydraulic pump assembly. The HCU is coupled to the support bracket.

Hydraulic control unit with differential connection

An electro-hydraulic limited slip differential system for a vehicle includes an axle assembly having an axle housing having an aperture formed therein, and an electro-hydraulic limited slip differential assembly disposed within the axle housing. The limited slip differential assembly includes a differential case, a differential gear assembly disposed in the differential case, a clutch assembly having a clutch pack and a clutch actuator assembly, and a hydraulic fitting disposed at least partially within the aperture. The hydraulic fitting is coupled to a hydraulic port of the clutch actuator assembly.

Electro-hydraulic limited slip differential system

A differential includes a differential case; a side gear; a pinion configured for meshing engagement with the side gear; and a pinion housing configured to support the pinion. The pinion housing includes a first face; a second face opposing the first face; a first projection located on the first face; and a second projection located on the second face. The pinion housing also includes an aperture or hole extending radially inwardly from an outer radial surface of the generally annular ring; and a channel extending from the first face to the second face, wherein the channel is substantially radially aligned with the aperture or hole. In embodiments, the pinion housing includes one or more transfer formations configured to transfer torque from the differential case, and the pinion housing is configured to permit movement in an axial direction between a pair of side gears.

A differential gear mechanism can include a differential casing. A first and a second side gear can be rotatably mounted within the differential casing. A pair of pinion gears can be mounted between the first and second side gears. Both of the pinion gears can be rotatably mounted on a cross shaft that is fixed for rotation with the differential casing. A clutch pack can include a plurality of annular plates that are interleaved between a plurality of annular friction disks. The clutch pack can be arranged on a first side of the cross shaft. An actuator assembly can comprise a piston received in a piston housing. The actuator assembly can be configured to actuate the clutch pack. The actuator assembly can be arranged on a second side of the cross shaft, opposite the first side.

Electronic limited slip differential with separation of clutch and actuator

A hydraulic control unit that delivers hydraulic fluid to a limited slip differential includes a hydraulic control unit housing, a sump and a motor. The hydraulic control unit housing has an accumulator housing portion that houses a biasing assembly and a piston. The sump is defined in the hydraulic control unit housing and at least partially occupies a common space with the accumulator housing portion. The motor is configured to pump fluid into an accumulator chamber of the accumulator housing portion. The fluid pumped into the accumulator housing portion at least partially collapses the biasing assembly and introduces a pre-charge into the hydraulic control unit. The biasing assembly is configured to expand and urge the piston in a first direction resulting in fluid being communicated from the hydraulic control unit and into the limited slip differential.

A mounting system for a differential comprises a cross shaft. The cross shaft comprises a passageway through the cross shaft perpendicular to a long axis. The passageway comprises a first hole and a second hole. A recess comprising a planar wall is proximal to the first hole. A first stub shaft comprises a planar surface in contact with the planar wall. A second stub shaft is proximal the second hole. A yoke in the passageway comprises a first portion extending in to the first stub shaft and a second portion extending in to the second stub shaft. A first bang ring is on the first portion of the yoke, and a second bang ring is on the second portion of the yoke. The yoke slip fits to the first stub shaft and the yoke slip fits to the second stub shaft.

A second piston () comprises a second portion embedded in the second recess (). An actuator () has a first side () and a second side (). The first piston () selectively presses against the first side () of the actuator, and the second piston () selectively presses against the second side () of the actuator. The actuator may be a synchronizer of a clutch assembly.

The present disclosure provides an improved, integrated electronically controlled hydraulic-based torque distribution system and related method. The torque distribution system of the present disclosure includes an electric motor that drives a pump that generates hydraulic pressure used to selectively activate a clutch pack to transfer torque to the wheels of a motor vehicle.
