An apparatus and method modify a saved query based on a change in a query value meaning that changes over time. In preferred embodiments a graphical query interface displays an option to adjust query values of a saved database query. A query adjustment mechanism then adjusts the value of the query to compensate for the change in the meaning of the query value since the query was created such that the adjusted query will have the same basic meaning as when the query was originally created. Preferred Embodiments allow the user to specify to adjust the query to the current date or to a specified date in the past.

A system and article of manufacture for managing access to queries and, more particularly, for managing access by multiple users to persistently stored queries. One embodiment discloses managing access by multiple users to a predefined query against data in a database. The embodiment comprises associating one or more access rights with at least some portion of the predefined query. When a request to access the predefined query by a first user is received, access to the predefined query by the first user is limited on the basis of the access rights.

Query conditions-based security

A method, apparatus, and program product are provided for protecting a network from intrusions. An offending packet communicated by an offending host coupled to a protected network is detected. In response to the detection, a blocking instruction is returned to the offending host to initiate an intrusion protection operation on the offending host, where the blocking instruction inhibits further transmission of offending packets by the offending host. At the offending host, a blocking instruction is received with a portion of an offending packet. The offending host verifies that the offending packet originated from the host. In response to the verification of the offending packet originating from the host, an intrusion protection operation is initiated on the host thereby inhibiting transmission of a subsequent outbound offending packet by the host.

A method, article of manufacture and apparatus for decomposing an initial query into smaller conditional groups for execution on a database is disclosed. A separate database query may be generated for each of the conditional groups, and the results of executing these separate database queries may be combined and returned as the result of the initial query. Typically, the initial query may be decomposed because it is otherwise too large and/or too complex to be executed directly.

A method and apparatus, and article of manufacture are provided to process an abstract query of a database abstraction constructed over an underlying physical data storage mechanism. The database may comprise a single data source, or a federated source spanning multiple systems. Embodiments of the invention process an abstract query by generating an intermediate representation of the abstract query. In one embodiment, the intermediate representation comprises an abstract query plan. An abstract query plan includes a combination of elements from the data abstraction model and elements relating to the underlying physical data storage mechanism. Once generated, a back-end component may easily traverse the abstract query plan to generate an SQL statement (or other resolved query) corresponding to the abstract query. Further, once constructed, the abstract query plan provides a platform for many different optimizations that may be selected by a user or by the runtime component inspecting the abstract query plan prior to creating the resolved query.

Methods, articles of manufacture and systems for managing execution of workflows. One embodiment provides a computer-implemented method for managing execution of a data driven multi-step workflow. The method includes receiving input data for a step of the workflow and performing the step of the workflow on the input data to obtain a result set. Then, at least one rule is applied to the result set for determining whether one or more associated conditions are satisfied. The at least one rule defines the one or more associated conditions and an associated process. If the one or more associated conditions are satisfied, the associated process is performed on the result set.

Method and system for managing execution of data driven workflows

A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for controlling access to electronic health records associated with an individual are provided. Individuals are provided with an electronic health records account (EHR account), wherein the EHR account is available to store electronic health records associated with the individual, in a network accessible storage repository. Additionally, an individual may be provided with plurality of disposable access devices, wherein the access devices may be presented to an entity. In turn, the entity may access the individual's EHR account, based on a predefined authorization specified for a particular access device.

Methods for comparing query-related objects are provided. In one embodiment, a first plurality of query-related objects for a first user is compared to a second plurality of query-related objects for a second user to determine a degree of similarity between the first and second plurality of query-related objects. Embodiments are provided for associating a virtual column with a target physical table. The data for the virtual column originates from a source physical table where the data physically resides. In this way, users can access the data in a manner consistent with the users' logical perspective of the data.

A method and apparatus improves the block allocation time in a parallel computer system. A pre-load controller pre-loads blocks of hardware in a supercomputer cluster in anticipation of demand from a user application. In the preferred embodiments the pre-load controller determines when to pre-load the compute nodes and the block size to allocate the nodes based on pre-set parameters and previous use of the computer system. Further, in preferred embodiments each block of compute nodes in the parallel computer system has a stored hardware status to indicate whether the block is being pre-loaded, or already has been pre-loaded. In preferred embodiments, the hardware status is stored in a database connected to the computer's control system. In other embodiments, the compute nodes are remote computers in a distributed computer system.

A natural language description is generated for each query component along with selectable text representing the query component. Upon selection of the selectable text, the query component is rendered for editing.
