A fault sensing circuit is provided in a remote device configured to be connected to an end of line resistor (EOLR) that is used to detect wiring faults. The fault sensing circuit includes a current monitoring subcircuit configured to detect when an input current of the remote device has crossed a fault threshold corresponding to a fault in the remote device. The fault sensing circuit further includes a switching subcircuit connected to the current monitoring subcircuit and the EOLR. The switching subcircuit is configured to electrically connect a fault resistor in parallel with the EOLR to change a value of an end of line resistance for a fault indication when the input current of the remote devices has crossed the fault threshold.

Fire panel end of line supervision monitoring

A fire protection system includes a first transceiver communicatively coupled with a first end of a communication link; a second transceiver communicatively coupled with a second end of the communication link and configured for communicating a signal with the first transceiver via the communication link; a first coupling/decoupling circuit configured to provide overlayed power by overlaying power from a first power source onto the signal at the first end of the communication link; and a second coupling/decoupling circuit configured to provide separated power by separating the signal from the overlayed power at the second end of the communication link, wherein the separated power is configured to power the second transceiver.

Isolated receiver powered by transmitter

A fire alarm control panel (FACP) in a fire alarm system includes a processor in communication with a communications interface. The processor is configured to receive an event signal from an initiation device. The FACP also includes a display, controlled by the processor, indicating a status of the fire alarm system and configured to present a plurality of icons corresponding to a plurality of voice messages to be selectively played in response to receiving one or more event signals from the initiation device. The FACP further includes an embedded microphone mounted in the fire alarm control panel adjacent to the display. The FACP also includes a programmable microphone interface controlled by the processor, in communication with the embedded microphone utilized in response to receiving one or more event signals from the initiation device.

Fire panel audio interface

A system and method for power supply ripple detection is disclosed. A voltage across one or more capacitors of the power supply is measured. An AC ripple voltage component of the capacitor voltage is then filtered and rectified into a DC signal. A level of ripple represented by the DC signal is then compared to threshold values to assess a health of the power supply. In one implementation, the power supplies provide power to control panels of one or more building management systems. The power supplies determine and report information concerning health of the power supplies to the control panels, the information including the DC signal itself and the result of the comparison of the DC signal to the threshold values. A cloud-based connected services system then receives and analyzes the information concerning health of the power supplies forwarded from control panels of multiple building management systems to determine trends.

Power supply ripple detector

A backup battery charging system for a building management system is disclosed. Components of the charging system include an analog power converter, a voltage feedback loop and a current feedback loop. The feedback loops each include at least one digital resistor. The system panel, in turn, includes at least one microcontroller that controls the building management system and also controls the charging system. The charging system is 'software defined,' in that the microcontroller controls the charging system by updating the digital resistors in the feedback loops to control the analog power converter. In one example, the building management system is a fire alarm system controlled by a fire control panel as the system panel.

Software defined battery charger system and method

A system and method for testing the capacities of battery backups in alarm systems. The system may include an alarm panel, a notification device connected to the alarm panel, a battery backup connected to the alarm panel and configured to provide the alarm panel and the notification appliance with electrical power. The system may further include test circuitry that is configured to monitor a voltage and an output current of the battery backup when the battery backup is placed under a battery capacity test, and a system controller that is configured to determine, from the monitored voltage and output current of the battery backup, information relating to the capacity of the battery backup. Such information may be communicated to a workstation or an offsite monitoring facility where it may be compiled with information relating to the capacities of other battery backups in the alarm system to create a report.

System and method for testing battery backup capacities in alarm systems

A transient electrical energy strike detector is disclosed. The detector may be integral with the circuitry of a fire alarm panel of a fire alarm system and may identify and record transient electrical energy strikes sustained by the electrical protection circuitry of the system. Particularly, voltage fluctuations in the fire alarm panel circuitry that are outside of a predefined operating voltage range may be identified by the pulse detector as representing transient electrical energy strikes. The pulse detector may increment a counter upon the occurrence of each identified transient energy strike, and may maintain a comprehensive record of such strikes in a memory unit, including a magnitude, duration, time, and date of each strike.
