An apparatus comprising a housing having a housing throughbore extending therethrough along a central axis; a motor drive shaft disposed in the housing throughbore; a component drive shaft disposed in the housing throughbore; and an alignment coupler mechanically coupling the motor drive shaft with the component drive shaft. The alignment coupler comprises: an alignment coupler body having an alignment coupler body throughbore extending therethrough; a spherical bolt comprising a spherical first end and an elongated section extending from the spherical first end to a second end; a thermally expandable material (TEM) section; a spring section comprising one or more springs; and one or more spherical spacers. The alignment coupler enables alignment of the motor drive shaft and the component drive shaft within the apparatus during assembly of the apparatus, and heating of the TEM provides rigidity to the assembled apparatus prior to use.

Well systems comprise communicating devices for use in subterranean formations. An example well system comprises a mud valve system having a stator and a rotor to modulate drilling mud flow to provide increased pulse amplitude signals up-hole for improved and faster signaling from down-hole tools while also providing for better detection capability up-hole. The improved signaling technique permits for deeper well applications.

An telemetry module includes a valve assembly having a gate defining gate valve flow ports and a valve seat defining valve seat flow ports. A first solenoid assembly is arranged on a first side of the valve assembly and includes a first valve train engageable with the gate and a first push solenoid operatively coupled to the first valve train to move the gate in a first direction. A second solenoid assembly is arranged on a second side of the valve assembly and includes a second valve train engageable with the gate and a second push solenoid operatively coupled to the second valve train to move the gate in a second direction opposite the first direction. Moving the gate in the first direction with the first solenoid increases flow through the gate and alternately moving the gate in the second direction with the second solenoid decreases flow through the gate.

A process for applying an insulative coating to a mandrel can be used in an electromagnetic telemetry antenna assembly. One process includes applying a bond coat to at least a portion of an outer radial surface of a mandrel; applying an electrical isolation layer to the bond coat; applying a first sealant layer to the electrical isolation layer; and heat treating the mandrel in an oven.

A centralizer includes one or more centralizer fins radially extending from a body of the centralizer. The centralizer fins may include one or more chambers extending through the outer surfaces of the centralizer fins. The one or more chambers may change shape in response to a compression force being applied to the centralizer fins to cause the centralizer fins to deform. The centralizer fins may be deformed for installation of the centralizer in a drill collar. The centralizer may also include a split-ring clamp for coupling the centralizer to a drilling tool positioned in a through-bore of the centralizer body. The split-ring clamp may apply a load on the drilling tool in response to an end cap being torqued to an end portion of the centralizer body.
