A method includes positioning a downhole acquisition tool in a wellbore in a geological formation. The method includes operating a pump module to gather information for a fluid outside of the downhole acquisition tool that enters the downhole acquisition tool from a first flowline, a second flowline, or both while the downhole acquisition tool is within the wellbore. Operating the pump module includes controlling a valve assembly to a first valve configuration that enables the fluid to flow into the downhole tool via the first flowline fluidly coupled to a first pump module. Operating the pump module includes controlling a valve assembly to a second valve configuration that enables the fluid to flow into the downhole tool via the second flowline fluidly coupled to a second pump module, and selectively using a turnaround module or a crossover portion disposed between the first flowline and the second flowline to permit discharging the fluid from one flowline to the other flowline by actuating a valve associated with the turnaround module when the first pump module or the second pump module is not in use.

A method for underground mining in a rock body include drilling one or more service boreholes from at least one surface location into a subsurface rock body. A plurality of multilateral blast holes is drilled, branching from at least one of the one or more service boreholes into the subsurface rock body. The plurality of multilateral blast holes are each loaded with one or more explosive charges and one or more detonators. The one or more explosive charges and the one or more detonators are inserted from surface. The one or more explosive charges is detonated wirelessly to fragment the subsurface ore body. Fragmented rock is extracted via the one or more service boreholes, to surface.

A vibration while drilling acquisition and signal processing system include a sensor assembly affixable to a drill string in a drilling unit and a sensor for detecting vibrations in the drill string. A first processor is in signal communication with the sensor and is programmed to digitally sample signals from the sensor. A transmitter in signal communication with the first processor communicates the digitized signals to a device disposed apart from the drill string. The first processor is programmed to operate the signal. An electric power source provides power to the sensor, the first processor and transmitter. Either or both the first processor and a second processor associated with the device is programmed to calculate properties of rock formations using only detected vibration signals from the drill string.

A method for determining properties of rock formations using drill string vibration measurements includes entering into a processor signals corresponding to vibrations detected along a rotating part of a drill string while drilling a borehole. The vibration signals are transformed into transformed signals representing elastic response of the drill string, the rock formations and borehole fluid to a filtered impulse originating at a known location along the drill string. Properties of the rock formations are calculated using the transformed signals.

Systems and methods for variable rate steam injection, including via solar power for enhanced oil recovery, are disclosed. Several embodiments include using the variable nature of solar-generated steam to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of enhanced oil recovery processes. Techniques for axial vibration control of wireline tools and cables during logging operations. In undesirable cases the axial vibrations may lead to or exasperate the stick-slip problems of the logging tool. Control systems and strategies to minimize vibrations and techniques for identifying and inhibiting the sticking of the cable. A system includes a surface actuator and a sensor. The actuator generates an axial wave on the wireline cable which travels down the cable. If there is sticking of the cable, a reflection can also occur at the location of sticking. This shift in the transmission of the wave on the wireline cable is used to identify the onset and/or presence of sticking.
