An apparatus for and method of processing service requests having a number of formats within a single generic gateway. The service requests are received by the server and routed to the appropriate one of a number of adapters. Each of the adapters convert service requests to a standardized format for input to the single generic gateway. The output of the single generic gateway is coupled through a corresponding one of a number of connectors to the end service provider for honoring.

Adapter architecture

A system and method which automatically converts COBOL data definitions into view files which allows a user from an Internet terminal to access an On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) enterprise server. This conversion permits the Internet user to perform COBOL transactions using the enterprise legacy system.

Automatic COBOL working storage to open/OLTP view conversion

An apparatus for and method of processing service requests provided by a user at a standard Internet work station. The service requests are received by the server and routed to a gateway. The gateway has the capability to convert the service request to a format acceptable by an enterprise server without the need of a view buffer. Thus, the conversion does not require a priori notification concerning the data formats employed. The output of the gateway is coupled through a corresponding one of a number of connectors to the end service provider for honoring. The response is transferred from the service provider to the appropriate connector to be formatted for the requesting gateway. The response is converted by the original adapter to an HTML or XML message for transfer back to the requester via the Internet.

Method and apparatus for passing service requests and data from web based workstations directly to online transaction processing (OLTP) server systems

The response is transferred from the service provider to the appropriate connector to be formatted for the common generic gateway. The response is converted by the original adapter to an XML message for transfer back to the requester via the Internet.

Method and system for handling transaction requests from workstations to OLTP enterprise server systems utilizing a common gateway

A generic server and gateway that run within a Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) environment capable of receiving requests from one or more different types of DCOM clients for service by an On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) style application running on an enterprise server. The services on the OLTP system are designed to accomplish a specific task, for example, update a user's bank account balance following a debit or credit. In a preferred embodiment, the OLTP system is X/Open compliant. The DCOM Client can be any type of client, including a Visual Basic client, C&plus;&plus; client, or a Web Browser with Active Server Pages (ASP). The generic server and generic gateway are vendor supplied components which tend to insulate the client developer from the details of the communication protocol with the OLTP system.

Generic DCOM server

A system and method which allows the interchange of Cookie information and standard Common Gateway Interface (CGI) variables between a user system and an On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) enterprise server. The present invention also discloses a specialized form of a transaction gateway, known as a security gateway, which runs on a Windows NT or UnixWare Web Server machine, and is built as a client application to interoperate with an enterprise-based OLTP security service. Finally, the present invention discloses an enterprise-based OLTP security service, which is used in conjunction with the security gateway described above, which processes user generated authentication requests, and if successful, calls an end service requested by a user.

Making CGI variables and cookie information available to an OLTP system

Method and apparatus for a new interface architecture which reduces the number of software components required to interface a variety of requester types coupled to a server with a variety of communications programs coupled to an on-line transaction processing system. The new interface architecture isolate attributes of the requesters and the communication programs into individual software components so that all software code associated with each requester type is included within a corresponding requester software module, and all software code associated with each communications program is included within a corresponding communications software module. Each new requester type added requires the addition of only one requester software module, and each new communications program added requires the addition of only one communications software module, thus reducing the overall number of software modules required to interface the variety of requester types to the variety of communications programs.
