A downhole gamma ray density measurement system is described. The gamma ray density measurement system includes a pressure housing and a gamma ray source within the pressure housing. One or more detectors within the pressure housing detect gamma radiation. One or more low-attenuation inserts may be located in the pressure housing near the gamma ray source and/or one or more of the detectors. One or more high-attenuation inserts may be located in the pressure housing near the gamma ray source and/or one or more of the detectors.

An apparatus for generating acoustic waves, the apparatus having: a support structure; two tines extending from the support structure so that proximal ends of the two tines are attached to the support structure so that distal ends of the two tines are positioned with standoffs relative to a dimension of the support structure and the distal ends of the two tines are uninhibited, wherein the two tines each comprise a moment arm; and an oscillator in mechanical communication with the two tines.

A borehole retention assembly for anchoring a well tool within a wellbore including a gripping assembly and an actuation assembly. The gripping assembly includes expandable members such that upon expanding the expandable members, the gripping assembly engages the wall of the borehole. The gripping assembly includes a pair of expandable members and a medial member, the members having cooperating tapered surfaces therebetween such that upon the actuation assembly contracting the gripping assembly, the expandable members are cammed outwardly against the borehole wall. The gripping assembly is mounted on a mandrel enabling them to resist rotational and axial forces on the well tool. When engaged, space is provided on each side of the borehole retention assembly such that annular flow is permitted therearound.

Borehole retention device

A valve comprising a valve body having a through opening that forms a fluid passage and having a wall surrounding a portion of the fluid passage, the wall defining a radially inwardly facing surface, the valve further including a valve element rotatably mounted in the valve body. To retain a valve seat in the valve body, there is provided a ring that has a peripheral surface shaped and sized such that the peripheral surface closely faces the radially inwardly facing surface of the wall when the ring is positioned within the through opening. The ring has a first axially facing side and a second axially facing side and a notch formed in the first side, the ring also having a second, radially outwardly facing annular groove in the peripheral surface that intersects the notch. When the ring is positioned within the through opening of the valve body, the first and second annular grooves are in register and thereby define an annular channel. A wire member having a first end and a second end has its first end removably fixed in the first annular groove such that, when the notch on the ring is in register with the fixed first end, rotation of the ring relative to the valve body in a direction away from the first end of the wire member and along the length of the wire member toward the second end threads the wire member into the channel.

Valve assembly

A valve comprising a valve body having a first end, a second end, and a through opening forming a fluid flow passage and a wall surrounding a portion of the fluid flow passage, the fluid flow passage defining an axis that is co-axial with the wall. A valve element is rotatably mounted in the valve body, the valve element having an annular, radiused sealing surface and being rotatable around a second axis perpendicular to the first axis passing through the fluid flow passage. A valve seat assembly is disposed in the valve body for sealing engagement with the sealing surface of the valve element, the valve seat assembly being axially displaced from the second axis toward the first end of the valve body, the valve seat assembly comprising a seal ring of a resilient, plastic material and having an annular radially inwardly facing first surface for sealing engagement with the sealing surface on the valve element and an annular, radially outwardly facing second surface, an annular radially outwardly facing groove being formed in the second surface. An elastomeric backing ring is disposed in the groove, the backing ring being circular in cross-section and having a center-line defined by a first plane passing through the center of the backing ring perpendicular to the first axis, the engagement between the sealing surface on the valve element and the first surface on the seal ring being substantially annular, line contact when the valve element is in the closed position and in the absence of any fluid pressure acting on the valve element, the line contact engagement lying in a second plane axially displaced from the first plane in a direction away from the second axis toward the first end of the valve body. There are also provided retaining means for retaining the valve seat assembly in the valve body.

Valve assembly having improved valve seat

An apparatus for inserting a resilient valve seat into a valve body, the valve body being of a type having a radially inwardly projecting annular rib which defines a bore through the valve body, the valve seat being generally annular and having an annular web portion, a first annular flange portion projecting radially outwardly from a first end of the web portion and a second annular flange portion projecting radially outwardly from a second end of the web portion to define an annular, radially outwardly opening channel for receiving the rib, the apparatus including a frame which has an opening and having a plate for positioning a valve body adjacent the opening such that the bore in the valve body and the opening in the frame are in register, a plunger assembly slidably mounted in the frame, the plunger assembly having a mounting head and a plurality of circumferentially spaced grabbing elements secured to the mounting head, the grabbing elements including projections to engage one of the annular flange portions of the valve seat such that at the mounting head is moved in a given direction in the frame, the grab elements engage the rib in the valve body resulting in a distortion or folding of the valve seat such that the engaged annular flange portion can pass through the bore defined by the rib.
