Apparatus for evaluating optical components and systems that uses a precision compact mirror support structure to present to an optical system or electro-optical system (e.g., a camera) multiple images of at least one optical evaluation target over a wide field to allow assessment of the performance or alignment of the optical or electro-optical system over its intended field of use. The mirror support structure generates multiple images of an optical evaluation target by providing multiple folded optical paths between the target and the desired field locations of the test optic. The mirrors employed may either be parallel or at angles with respect to one another.

Compact system for presenting wide field object target to test optic or system

A system for quickly aligning a test optic with various components of an optical metrology tool. A collimated target is presented to a beamsplitting reference surface located on a positioning system for holding and manipulating the test optic. Video images of the target and its reflection from the reference surface are displayed for analysis and visualization so that any tilt between the reference surface and the optical axis of the collimated beam can be removed to align the test optic. After alignment, the video based system is used to quickly measure and display in real-time a variety of performance characteristics of optical components such as lenses. The metrology system is under the control of a computer which uses a windowing software program to provide the user with a graphical user interface by which the various components of the system and test lenses may be aligned and characterized.

Optical alignment apparatus and methodology for a video based metrology tool

A system for quickly measuring and displaying in real-time a variety of performance characteristics of IR optical components such as lenses, or the like. The system is video based and is under the control of a computer which uses a windowing software program to provide the user with a graphical user interface by which the various components of the system and test lenses may be characterized and operated on through functions available via the interface. The system has features for compensating for the presence of IR background radiation that may be present during a measurement cycle and for drift in the video imager. Thermal management features are included to minimize IR background.

Image analysis system and methods for IR optics

An imaging assembly for use in a medical imaging device such as an endoscope or the like. In one embodiment, the imaging assembly includes a transparent distal cap that is shaped to receive an image sensor insert. The image sensor insert has a cooling channel that supplies a cooling liquid or gas to one or more illumination sources.

An endoscopic imaging system includes a reusable control cabinet having a number of actuators that control the orientation of a lightweight endoscope that is connectable thereto. The endoscope is used with a single patient and is then disposed. The endoscope includes an illumination mechanism, an image sensor, and an elongate shaft having one or more lumens located therein. An articulation joint at the distal end of the endoscope allows the distal end to be oriented by the actuators in the control cabinet. The endoscope is coated with a hydrophilic coating that reduces its coefficient of friction and because it is lightweight, requires less force to advance it to a desired location within a patient.

A night vision apparatus comprises housing arrangement by which a user can place an eyepiece adjacent one eye, a solid state imager sensitive to infrared radiation, an infrared radiation generation means arranged to generate infrared radiation into the field of view of the solid state imager; and an image generator arranged to receive the output from the solid state imager and to generate a visible image representative of this output at a position visible to the eye of the user. Head-mounted and hand-held embodiments are provided.

Night vision apparatus

The invention features a multi-spectral microscopy system for illuminating a sample with light of a selectable spectral content and generating an image of the sample in response to the illumination. The multi-spectral microscopy system includes a multispectral illuminator that provides output radiation having the selectable spectral content. A preferred set of optical arrangements for the multispectral illuminator generates the output radiation so that the spectral content of the output radiation is substantially uniform across its transverse profile. Furthermore, the multispectral illuminator can include monitoring optics and a corresponding detector array that independently monitors the output in each spectral band of the radiation produced by the multispectral illuminator. The monitoring provides calibration, feedback, and/or source aging information to insure robust and reliable performance for the multispectral illuminator. The multi-spectral microscopy system also includes a microscope which illuminates the sample with light derived from the output of the multispectral illuminator, and beam modification optics, which modify the output from the lamp prior to the microscope to increase the light efficiency of the microscope and fully exploit field of view and resolution of the microscope.
