A brake system comprises an electronic stability control (ESC) module defining a first interconnect passage, and a pressure supply unit (PSU) module defining a second interconnect passage in fluid communication with the first interconnect passage. The ESC module includes a first pump configured to transfer brake fluid from the PSU module and to a plurality of wheel brakes, and a prime valve configured to selectively control fluid communication between the first interconnect passage and an inlet of the first pump. The PSU module includes a second pump configured to transfer the brake fluid from a fluid reservoir to the first interconnect passage, and a bypass fluid passage from the fluid reservoir to the ESC module with an inline check valve allowing fluid flow through the bypass fluid passage from the fluid reservoir and to the ESC module while blocking fluid flow in an opposite direction.

Electronic stability control-based brake actuation with redundancy

An electro-hydraulic brake system includes a master cylinder (MC) fluidly coupled to an MC fluid passageway and configured to supply fluid into the MC fluid passageway in response to pressing force on a brake pedal. A pressure supply unit (PSU) includes an electric motor and a PSU piston disposed within a piston bore, the PSU piston is movable through the piston bore by the electric motor and divides the piston bore into a first chamber and a second chamber. A pedal feel emulator (PFE) includes a PFE piston movable through a PFE bore and separating an upper chamber from a lower chamber. Fluid is conveyed from the lower chamber of the PFE to the second chamber of the PSU in response to a compression of the PFE. The MC fluid passageway provides a fluid path from the master cylinder into the upper chamber of the PFE.

Brake-by-wire system with pressure balanced PSU piston

A hydraulic actuator for a vehicle suspension includes: a pump assembly including an electric motor coupled to first and second pumps to transfer hydraulic fluid to a discharge header; a first isolation valve having an elastomeric seat and configured to selectively block fluid flow from a port in fluid communication with a height-adjustable damper to the discharge header; and a second isolation valve having a metal seat and connected in series with the first isolation valve to selectively block fluid flow from the port to the discharge header. The first pump transfers hydraulic fluid from a supply fluid passage to a first discharge header, and the second pump transfers hydraulic fluid from the supply fluid passage to a second discharge header. A recirculation valve selectively controls fluid flow from the second discharge header to the supply fluid passage.

Suspension hydraulic lift actuator for axle trim height control

An electro-hydraulic brake assembly comprises a hydraulic control unit (HCU) body having a top surface and a bottom surface opposite the top surface and defining a master cylinder bore and a pressure supply bore. A fluid reservoir is disposed on the top surface. A primary piston is slidably disposed in the master cylinder bore and configured to supply brake fluid to a wheel brake in response to pressing of a brake pedal. A pressure supply unit includes: a pressure supply piston disposed within the pressure supply bore; a motor located on the bottom surface of the HCU body and having a motor shaft. An actuator mechanism includes a threaded shaft configured to be rotated by the motor shaft, and a nut coupled to the pressure supply piston, together causing the pressure supply piston to translate linearly through the pressure supply bore in response to rotation of the motor shaft.

Electro-hydraulic brake assembly

An integrated air supply unit comprises a compressor housing, a pressure control unit (PCU) body, and a desiccant housing extending between the compressor housing and the PCU body. The desiccant housing defines a desiccant cavity holding a desiccant container for removing moisture from air passing therethrough. A piston is slidably disposed within a piston bore of the compressor housing. The PCU body defines a plurality of fluid passages with solenoid valves selectively controlling airflow therethrough. The integrated air supply unit may also comprise: a manifold, a discharge control valve, a compressor supplying pressurized air in a first pressurized air passage, a dryer configured to remove moisture from the pressurized air in the first pressurized air passage and to supply dried pressurized air in a second pressurized air passage, a supply control valve to control airflow between the second pressurized air passage and the manifold, and a piloted exhaust valve.

Integrated air supply unit

An air management system including at least one air spring and a compressor. The compressor defines a compartment having an inlet and an outlet. A reservoir is fluidly connected to the air spring and the compressor. A piston is moveable in the compartment and is reciprocally moveable in a compression stroke and an extension stroke in response to actuation of the motor in order to build-up air pressure at the outlet. The piston defines at least one passage extending between the extension chamber and the compression chamber, and at least one check valve positioned in the at least one passage such that air pressure in the compression chamber biases the piston toward the extension chamber to reduce a torque load on the motor during movement of the piston.

Closed integrated air management module

A concurrent leveling system includes a pressurized air source. A manifold block, having a body defining an air feed inlet, is disposed between air springs and the pressurized air source. The body includes front and rear suspension valves. Each of the suspension valves defines a suspension valve orifice having a first predetermined diameter. The body includes at least one restrictor valve parallel to and in fluid communication with the front suspension valves. The at least one restrictor valve includes a first check valve and a first blocker valve orifice defining a first orifice diameter. The first check valve and the first blocker valve orifice are disposed parallel to one another and in series with the front suspension valves and in fluid communication with the air feed inlet and the front suspension valves for reducing fluid back flow to allow the vehicle to be lowered in nominal loading conditions.

Concurrent leveling system for a vehicle

An air management system and method are provided. The system includes a pressurized air source. A manifold block is coupled to the pressurized air source and includes a plurality of suspension valves in fluid communication with the pressurized air source and each defines a suspension orifice of a first diameter for controlling air flow to and from a plurality of air springs. A manifold pressurization valve is in fluid communication with the plurality of suspension valves and the pressurized air source and defines a manifold pressurization orifice of a second diameter that is less than the first diameter of the suspension orifice for opening under high pressure to allow pressurized air into the manifold block. An electronic control unit controls the manifold pressurization valve and the plurality of suspension valves to equalize a high pressure differential across the plurality of suspension valves from the plurality of air springs.

Vehicle suspension control system and method of operation thereof

An air management system for a vehicle. The air management system includes at least one air spring. A compressor is provided for filling the air spring. A central air line is fluidly connected to the air spring and the compressor. At least one spring air line extends between the central air line and the air spring. At least one suspension valve is disposed along the spring air line. At least one auxiliary air line extends between the spring air line and the central air line. At least one high flow exhaust valve is disposed along the auxiliary air line. At least one isolation check valve is disposed in series with the high flow exhaust along the spring air line. The isolation check valve allows air to pass through therethrough from the air spring to the central air line while preventing air from passing therethrough from the central air line to the air spring.

Vehicle suspension control system with high flow exhaust mechanization

A hydraulic control unit for a motor vehicle having a motor providing a drive shaft driving a rotatable piston bearing surface at a proximal end of the motor, a hydraulic block providing cavities housing a pumping assembly and fluid control valves, and a control section providing solenoid coils receiving portions of the fluid control valves, with the pump cavity being disposed on a first end of the hydraulic block and the valve cavities being disposed on an opposite end of the hydraulic block, and the pumping assembly being reciprocalably driven by the rotatable piston bearing surface along an axis radially disposed from and otherwise parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotatable piston bearing surface. In another aspect, a pump element having a ball bearing assembly mounted at an oblique angle with respect to the axis of rotation of a seat, and a pumping assembly reciprocally bearing against an outer portion of the ball bearing assembly.

Linear single channel hydraulic control unit

Apparatus including a brake control assembly having a brake fluid accumulator assembly. The brake fluid accumulator assembly includes a brake fluid orifice, at least one brake-fluid-accumulating piston bore, a controllable bi-directional motor, and at least one piston. The brake fluid orifice is fluidly connectable to a brake apply master cylinder and is fluidly connectable to a wheel brake. The at-least-one brake-fluid-accumulating piston bore is fluidly connected to the brake fluid orifice. The motor has a first motor driving direction and an opposite second motor driving direction. The at-least-one piston is each positioned in and slidable within a corresponding brake-fluid-accumulating piston bore and is each movable by the motor, in the first motor driving direction, to move in compression within the corresponding brake-fluid-accumulating piston bore.

Apparatus including a brake control assembly having a brake fluid accumulator assembly

A hydraulic control system for a brake apparatus includes a combination valve and a motor connected to the combination valve. Output by the motor in a first direction places the combination valve in a first configuration, and output by the motor in a second direction opposite the first direction places the combination valve in a second configuration different from the first configuration. In the first configuration, the control valve allows hydraulic fluid to flow along a first fluid path. In the second configuration, the control valve allows hydraulic fluid to flow along a second fluid path different from the first fluid path.

Braking system with mechanical combination valves

A braking system including a pre-charge with a plurality of pumps disposed in parallel with respect to one another. The pumps can direct pressurized brake fluid to the brakes during a controlled braking maneuver. The pumps operate with offset operating cycles such that a first pump is drawing fluid while a second pump is pushing fluid to the brakes. The invention provides an embodiment having three pumps operated in parallel, wherein the pumps define operating cycles offset 120 degrees from one another. The invention also provides a separate master cylinder reservoir feed circuit to improve response of the system, especially cold weather response.
