A method performed by an AMF. The method includes receiving a first request to establish UP for a UE's PDU session and, in response to receiving the request to establish UP for the UE's PDU session, determining whether a condition is satisfied. Determining whether the condition is satisfied comprises determining if the UE is in the idle state with respect to a non-3GPP access, wherein the condition is not satisfied if the UE is not in the idle state with respect to the non-3GPP access. The method also includes initiating paging of the UE by a 3GPP access as a result of determining that the condition is satisfied.

Handling a UE that is in the idle state

The present application generally relates to wireless communication technology. More particularly, the present application relates to a method and apparatus for performing protection control in a core network with separation between control plane and user plane. The present application also relates to computer program product adapted for the same purpose. According to one embodiment, a method for performing protection control in a core network with separation between control plane and user plane, comprises the following steps performed on the user plane: —a) pairing a User Plane Function (UPF) and at least one User Plane Security Function (UPSF); and —b) notifying a pairing relationship between the UPF and the UPSF to the control plane so that the pair of the UPF and the UPSF can be controlled by a Control Plane Function (CPF) via the same reference point.

Method and apparatus for performing protection control in a core network

A method performed by a PGW for handling a UEs access to an EPC service via a non-3GPP access network. During a request for connecting the UE to the non-3GPP access network, the PGW receives identity information which indicates an identity of an AAA node from a non-3GPP access gateway. The PGW selects the AAA node which was indicated in the received identity information. The PGW transmits, to the selected AAA node, a request message for the UE. The request message is a request for authorization of the UE to access the EPC service via the non-3GPP access network.

Method and nodes for handling access to EPC services via a non-3GPP network

A 5G Fixed Mobile Interworking Function Database entity, FMIF-DB, in a system including a Wireline 5G Access Network, W-5GAN, connects to a Fixed Network Residential Gateway, FN-RG, the W-5GAN including a Wireline Access Node, AN, and a 5G Fixed Mobile Interworking Function, FMIF. The FMIF connects to Access and Mobility Management Function, AMF, and to an User Plane Function, UPF, and the FMIF DN. The wireline Access Node, couples to a Fixed Network Residential Gateway, FN-RG providing services such as TV, Internet and voice, the database apparatus being adapted for holding—User entity, UE, credentials for providing an identity of an FN-RG as a User Entity, UE, and—UE configuration data for the FN-RG.

Registration of legacy fixed network residential gateway (FN-RG) to a 5G core network

A method performed by an Access and mobility Management Function (AMF). The method includes receiving from a Session Management Function (SMF) a request to establish User Plane (UP) for a user equipment's (UE's) protocol data unit (PDU) session. The request includes information indicating an access type. The method also includes, in response to the request, performing the steps of: determining that the UE is in the idle state with respect to both a 3GPP access and a non-3GPP access and, as a result of determining that the UE is in the idle state with respect to both a 3GPP access and a non-3GPP access, the AMF initiates paging of the UE by the 3GPP access, the paging initiation comprising transmitting to a Radio Access Network, RAN, node a page request to page the UE.

A method performed by a serving Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) serving a wireless communication device. The method includes receiving, from a target AMF, a request for information regarding the wireless communication device. The method also includes submitting, in reply to the request for information, a current user equipment (UE) context of the wireless communication device and an identifier of an ongoing non 3rd Generation Partnership Project (non-3GPP) access Protocol Data Unit (PDU) session for the wireless communication device. The method further includes notifying a Non-3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF) to remove the current UE context, wherein the N3IWF is configured to enable the wireless communication device to attach to the core network over non-3GPP access.

AMF relocation with N3IWF handling

Systems and methods relating to establishment of a Packet Data Unit, PDU, session over a Non 3GPP Access to a 3GPP network and transmitting IP data and non-IP data are provided. A method of operation of a wireless device is provided and comprises sending to an AMF over an N3IWF a PDU session request to establish a PDU session to transport one of IP data or non-IP data over an established first IPsec, Security Association, SA, establishing an IPSec Child SA, for the PDU session and associating the IPSec Child SA to a PDU session then encapsulating the data using ESP encapsulation or GRE encapsulation associated with the IPSec Child SA and indicating the type of data that is being transmitted (e.g., non-IP data that comprises raw application data). In this manner, an IoT device is able to securely transmit to the 3GPP network IP data/non-IP data/raw application data over an unsecure non 3GPP access network such as Wireless Local Area Network. Methods and apparatus describing the NAS signalling and the PDU session as each using their respective IPSec SA are provided. Similarly, methods and apparatus describing the NAS signalling and the PDU sessions sharing a common IPSec SA are provided. GRE encapsulation of the data within the ESP frame is described for both NAS signalling and PDU session in the case of multiple IPSec/Child SAs or common IPSec SA. Similarly, methods and apparatus are provided for the N3IWF which provides for the UE secure access to the network.

User plane model for non-3GPP access to fifth generation core network

The embodiments herein relate to a method performed by a PGW () for handling a UEs () access to an EPC service via a non-3GPP access network (). During a request for connecting the UE () to the non-3GPP access network (), the PGW () receives identity information which indicates an identity of an AAA node () from a non-3GPP access gateway (). The PGW () selects the AAA node () which was indicated in the received identity information. The PGW () transmits, to the selected AAA node (), a request message for the UE (). The request message is a request for authorization of the UE () to access the EPC service via the non-3GPP access network ().

The invention relates to methods and devices for enabling relocation of Access and Mobility Management Functions (AMFs). In an aspect of the invention a method performed by a Non-3rd Generation Partnership Project (GPP) Interworking Function (, NIWF) enabling a wireless communication device () to attach to a core network () over non-GPP access, to facilitate re-location of the wireless communication device () from an Access and Mobility Management Function (, AMF) currently serving the wireless communication device () over non-GPP access to the core network (), to a target AMF () which is to serve the wireless communication device () overGPP access to the core network (). The method comprises receiving (S), from the target AMF (), a request to redirect any further signalling of the wireless communication device () from the currently serving AMF () to the target AMF (); and redirecting any signalling of the wireless communication device () to the target AMF ().

A method performed in a mobility management node includes the mobility management node receiving a first Packet Data Network (PDN) activation request from a wireless local area network (WLAN) access gateway, the first PDN activation request specifying an access point name (APN) and a tunnel endpoint identifier (TEID) parameter for identifying the WLAN access gateway, the WLAN access gateway connected to a user equipment (UE). The method further includes in response to receiving the PDN activation request, the mobility management node (i) selecting a Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW) based on the specified APN, (ii) generating a second PDN activation session request that includes the TEID parameter for identifying the WLAN access gateway, (iii) selecting a serving gateway (SGW), and (iv) forwarding the second PDN activation request to the selected SGW.

Methods and network nodes for reuse of EPC session between 3GPP and WLAN

Method for an ePDG in a MNO network, the MNO network comprising an access point, an MME, a Serving Gateway, a MNO PGW providing MNO IP services, and the ePDG, wherein the ePDG, may provide PDN services to UEs of a NH network; the NH network comprising an NH-AP communicating with the ePDG. A UE is adapted for connecting to the MNO network; the UE being adapted for finding a NH cell and engaging in setting up a connection in the NH network between the UE and the NH-AP. The ePDG engaging in setting up a first MNO bearer between the MNO ePDG and the MNO PGW; engaging in setting up a first IPsec tunnel between the UE and the MNO ePDG; engaging setting up a second MNO bearer between the MNO ePDG and the MNO PGW, and requesting setting up a second IPsec tunnel between the UE and the MNO ePDG, for providing differentiated services for the UE.

Quality of service in neural host network

A method of determining in an IP multimedia subsystem, IMS, network which radio access type, RAT, should be used to route a terminating session directed towards a user equipment, UE. The HSS receives a terminating access domain selection, T-ADS, query from an application server, AS, of the IMS network, the T-ADS query relating to the terminating session and identifying the UE; and determines whether a packet data network gateway, PDN-GW, is registered for the UE. In the case where a PDN-GW is registered, the HSS sends a RAT request towards the PDN-GW, the RAT request identifying the UE and requesting a RAT used by the UE to connect to the IMS network. The PDN-GW determines the RAT and sends the result towards the HSS, which sends a T-ADS response to the AS indicating the RAT. In the case where a PDN-GW is not registered, the HSS sends a T-ADS response to the AS indicating that the RAT is a circuit switched RAT. Apparatus for implementing the method are also provided.

Enhancements to terminating access domain selection

Apparatus configured to operate as a WAC of a WAN. The apparatus comprises a database unit, a transceiver, and a resource request processor. The database unit maintains a database of a plurality of user equipment (UEs) connected to the WAN, resource usage by each of the UEs, and available resources of the WAN. The transceiver communicates with a gateway between the WAN and a telecommunications network. The resource request processor receives a resource request from the gateway, the resource request identifying a UE and indicating a required change in resource usage; and determines whether the required change in resource usage is possible based on the available resources of the WAN. If the required change in resource usage is possible, the resource request processor updates database records for resource usage by the UE and available resources of the WAN and sends a resource response to the gateway.

Controlling wireless local area network access

A method for assigning a cellular network identity. The method comprises receiving (), in a user equipment capable to attach to a cellular network and a wireless local area network, a unique representation of a user equipment context of the user equipment and in what cellular network node the user equipment is or is going to be attached, from a network node. The unique representation is labelled () as a cellular network identity and cellular network identity is stored () a pseudonym identity and/or a fast re-authentication identity in a memory in the user equipment.
