A label for a glass container is preprinted with inks and adhesive on a seperable substrate and cured, and the printed label is then transferred to the container.

Label laminate for container

A coating for a clear (flint) glass container that can be readily formulated to provide a wide range of colors and finishes and protect the contents from natural and ultraviolet light. When applied and cured the coating will provide increased abrasion and impact resistance and process through all container filling operations.

Glass container coating process

A topcoating for glass containers that will be abrasion resistant, present a high gloss finish, afford increased impact resistance. A method for in-line high speed application to glass containers and curing of the topcoating is disclosed. The topcoating will retain its adhesion to the glass container throughout the various food and beverage packaging operations as well as handling in the marketplace and by the consumer.

Method and apparatus for removing a label from a container which includes a cylindrical surface, by blowing air so as to be incident tangentially with respect to the cylindrical surface of the container and flow along the container surface toward a leading edge of the label as the container is rotated. An air knife having an air exit slit and a substantially planar surface disposed adjacent to and substantially perpendicular to the air exit slit utilizes the Coanda effect, such that air exiting from the air exit slit bends around and follows the substantially planar surface so as to flow tangentially to the cylindrical surface of the container and thereby remove the label as the container is rotated.

Method and apparatus for removing label from a container

A label for a glass container is preprinted with inks and adhesive on a separable substrate and cured, and the printed label is then transferred to the container. The labelled container is then coated with a protective material. The label application apparatus includes a mechanism for indexing the label web in such a manner as to minimize starting and stopping of the supply and take-up reels when labels are applied to plural containers simultaneously.

A thin film label, either clear or opaque, is printed with an ink layer and a multiple-layer heat-activated adhesive layer for bonding to a glass container.
