Provided herein are methods of treating a patient comprising providing a medical apparatus comprising an external system and an implantable system, implanting the implantable system, and delivering at least one of power or data to the implantable system with the external system. The external system comprises: at least one external antenna configured to transmit a first transmission signal to the implantable system; an external transmitter configured to drive the at least one external antenna; an external power supply; and an external controller. The implantable system comprises: at least one implantable antenna configured to receive the first transmission signal from the first external device; an implantable receiver; at least one implantable functional element configured to interface with the patient; an implantable controller; an implantable energy storage assembly; and an implantable housing surrounding at least the implantable controller and the implantable receiver. Medical apparatus are also provided.

Apparatus for peripheral or spinal stimulation

Provided is a medical apparatus for a patient comprising an external system and an implantable system. The external system can be configured to transmit one or more transmission signals, each transmission signal comprising at least power or data. The implantable system can be configured to receive the one or more transmission signals from the external system. The external system comprises a first external device comprising at least one external antenna configured to transmit a first transmission signal to the implantable system. The implantable system comprises a first implantable device comprising at least one implantable antenna configured to receive the first transmission signal from the first external device. At least one of the external antenna or implantable antenna comprises an antenna assembly comprising: at least one transmitting/receiving antenna; and at least one shielding element positioned between the at least one transmitting/receiving antenna and an interfering component.

Stimulation apparatus

A medical apparatus for a patient comprises an external system and an implantable system. The external system is configured to transmit one or more transmission signals, each transmission signal comprising at least power or data. The implantable system is configured to receive the one or more transmission signals from the external system, and to deliver stimulation energy to the patient. Methods of delivering stimulation energy are also provided.

Method and apparatus for neuromodulation treatments of pain and other conditions

Described herein are methods of making and using and apparatus for wirelessly communicating data and providing power, particularly from a location exterior to a body and to an implantable device disposed within a body with tissue. The described embodiments provide apparatus and methods for efficiently transfer data and power between an external transceiver and an (implanted) biomedical device. The method is to modulate power carrier, which wirelessly powers the device, using an asynchronous modulation scheme, such as amplitude shift keying (ASK) modulation, with minimal modulation depth in order to not disrupt the power flow. The digital data is encoded in the pulse width, eliminating the need for synchronization to the power carrier signal and further minimizing the power consumption necessary for data transfer. Additionally, a reverse backscatter method for obtaining data from the implant is described that has flexible, low power operation.

Method and apparatus for efficient communication with implantable devices

Described is a locomotive implant for usage within a predetermined magnetic field. In one embodiment magnetohydrodynamics is used to generate thrust with a plurality of electrodes. In another embodiment, asymmetric drag forces are used to generate thrust.

Method of making and using an apparatus for a locomotive micro-implant using active electromagnetic propulsion

A stimulation system for a patient is provided. The system comprises: at least one implantable device comprising at least one implantable antenna; and an external device comprising at least one external antenna, wherein the at least one external antenna transfers power to the at least one implantable antenna. Devices and methods for positioning external devices in relation to implanted devices

A medical apparatus configured to neuromodulate tissue and/or record patient information is provided. The apparatus includes an external system to transmit transmission signal(s), each signal having at least power or data, and an implantable system to receive the transmission signal(s). The data transfer between the external and implantable systems is asynchronous. The external system includes external antenna(s) to transmit a transmission signal. The transmission signal is an amplitude modulated signal modulated by varying a load on the external antenna(s) that causes an impedance mismatch prior to amplifying the signal for transmission. An implantable device includes implantable antenna(s) to receive the transmission signal. The implantable system comprises a receiver to receive the transmission signal from the implantable antenna(s), implantable transmission module(s) to transmit data to the external system, and a variable load connected to the implantable antenna(s). Data is transmitted by varying the load.

Method and apparatus for versatile minimally invasive neuromodulators

A medical apparatus for a patient comprises an implantable system. The implantable system comprises a first implantable device comprising: at least one implantable functional element configured to deliver stimulation energy to tissue of the patient; and an implantable controller configured to provide a stimulation waveform to the at least one implantable functional element, the stimulation waveform comprising one or more stimulation parameters. The apparatus is configured to randomly vary at least one of the one or more stimulation parameters. Methods of providing stimulation energy with randomly varying stimulation parameters are also provided.
