A cable () is provided comprising a steel cord () and a polymer material (). The steel cord () has a diameter less than 2.5 mm, and is coated with the polymer material (). The cable () has a permanent elongation of less than 0.05% at a permanent force of 50 N, after being subjected to a force of 450 N. Further, a window elevator system () comprising such a cable () is provided.

The invention relates to a composite article comprising at least one metal reinforcement element embedded in a polymer material. An adhesion promoting layer is interposed between the metal reinforcement element and the polymer material. The adhesion promoting layer comprises an organofunctional silane and a hyperbranched polymer. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing a composite article and to the use of a composite article as metal reinforced article.

An elevator rope comprising an elastomer coated, multistrand steel wire cable is claimed. In such a cable strands have a lay-length of at least 6.5 times the diameter of the bare cable diameter D. The cable is further coated with an elastomeric jacket, which adheres to the strands with a pull-out force not less than 15&#xd7;D+15 newton per mm. The advantages of such an elevator rope are amongst others its limited elongation, its reduced diameter and its improved fatigue life.

A coated metal reinforcement element for polymeric or elastomeric materials comprises a coating of: a polymer or prepolymer compatible with and co-polymerizable, co-vulcanizable or crosslinkable with said polymeric or elastomeric material to be reinforced, and bearing functional groups; either covalently bonding to the metal surface of said reinforcement element; or forming covalent bonds with the outward directed first functional groups of a mono-or multimolecular layer of a bifunctional adhesion promotor intercalated between said metal by its second functional groups. A method for the coating includes a one step and a two step procedure.
