A method of reporting on a software update performed on a network composed of at least a plurality of wireless devices. The method comprises, at a centralized network element: i) detecting properties of two or more wireless devices in the network, ii) reading the update to determine functions of the two or more devices which the updated is programmed to implement, and iii) receiving an update report reporting whether or not the software update was successfully installed in memory of the at least one wireless device; for each update reported to be successfully installed in iii), comparing the functions determined in ii) against the properties detected in i) to establish which functions are now enabled within the network, and which existing functions are now disabled due to the update; and creating and outputting to a user a customized report indicating the enabled and/or disabled functions.

System and method for producing an update report

An electronic device is configured to determine apart () of a light effect for a first period and determine a succeeding part () of the light effect for a second period succeeding the first period. The electronic device is further configured to determine a likelihood that a second original light command specifying a part () of a light effect for the second period will not arrive at its destination and transmit an original first light command or determine and transmit an alternative first light command in dependence on the likelihood and/or the determined succeeding part of the light effect. Optimizing message forwarding in a wireless mesh network

A presence mimicking system comprises a first lighting system (A) arranged to illuminate a first environment and a second lighting system (B) arranged to illuminate a second environment. A computer system configured to receive from the first lighting system an indication of a sequence of illumination settings, at least some of which have been applied to the first lighting system by at least one user when present in a first environment illuminated thereby. The computer system is configured, in response to a mimic instruction, to mimic in the unoccupied second environment the presence of the at least one user of the first environment, by applying a matching sequence of illumination settings to the second lighting system, wherein the computer system is configured to select the first lighting system for use in the presence mimicking from a set of candidate lighting systems, by comparing a profile of the second lighting system with profiles of the candidate lighting systems.

A lighting system controller for a lighting system having lighting units and sensors which together form a communications network. A new sensor may be added to the network as a new network node. In response to this, a high sensitivity mode is implemented, for assisting the user in testing the new sensor function.

Lighting controller, lighting system and configuration method

This disclosure relates to communicating on a wireless channel in the presence of an interference source. A receiver accesses the channel to perform a sequence of energy detections. The interference source is modelled as cyclically transitioning into and out of an inactive state and as cyclically transitioning, when out of the inactive state, between a first active state, in which the interference source is active and creating interference on the channel, and a second active state, in which the interference source is active but creating a substantially lower level of interference on the channel. Based on the sequence of energy detections, large and small time scale metrics are determined. Transmission of data by a transmitter is in dependence on the estimated metrics.

Modelling interference

A control device for controlling a plurality of lighting devices via a network is disclosed. The control devicecomprises a receiver () for receiving a signal based on a user input related to adjusting a control parameter of the plurality of lighting devices (). The control device further comprises a processor () for generating, based on the received signal, on a predetermined network capacity and on the number of user input commands received within a predetermined time period, one of: a plurality of messages of a first type () and a single message of a second type (). The control device further comprises a transmitter () for transmitting the generated plurality of messages of a first type () or the single message of a second type () via the network (), thereby adjusting the control parameter of the plurality of lighting devices (). The control device is able to utilize the network optimally by generating messages based on their impact on the network. This may improve the control of the plurality of lighting devices and provide an optimized user experience.

Control of networked lighting devices

The disclosure describes is a channel switching strategy and corresponding protocol for a mesh network which comprises a segment controller (SC) and a large number of outdoor luminaire controllers (OLCs) or other network nodes. A channel switching process is initiated and managed by the SC which transmits a channel switching command to all nodes in the system. Following the actual channel switch, the SC delegate's responsibility to request an orphan node to switch to the new channel to a selected delegate node which is a neighbor node of the orphan node. The selection of the delegate node may be based on a prioritization. When an OLC does not receive any messages for a specified, prolonged period of time, it may scan available frequency bands to find the (new) channel in which the networked system operates at that time.

Delegated channel switching for mesh-type networks

A wireless network has a duty-cycle limitation, which defines a total transmission time budget and an average transmission time. A device () has a controller () for controlling the transmission of data according to the duty-cycle limitation. The controller stores past transmission time usage of the device in sequences of buckets, and determines a bucket budget of transmission time. A basic transmission time budget is assigned which is smaller than the average transmission time of the corresponding time interval, and additional transmission time is allocated to allow for temporally exceeding the average transmission time. The additional transmission time is based on the total transmission time budget and the past transmission time usage of past buckets in combination with the future basic transmission time budget of future buckets, which past, current and future buckets together cover the duty-cycle period. Advantageously, the system enables accommodating temporal fluctuation in data transmission and guarantees a minimum transmission capacity.
