Process for enhancing the separation of monomer components from light components other than monomer by providing a first stream containing monomer and light components other than monomer and passing the first stream to a first separator at a first pressure to separate a gaseous second stream containing at least some of the light components other than monomer and provide a liquid third stream containing monomer. A portion of the third stream and a fourth stream containing monomer and light components other than monomer is passed to a second separator at a second pressure which is lower than the first pressure to separate a gaseous fifth stream containing at least some of the light components other than monomer from the fourth stream and provide a liquid sixth stream containing monomer.

Separation of monomer components from light components

Process for polymerizing monomer in a reactor by withdrawing an effluent from the reactor which is a slurry of polymer solids in a liquid medium and contacting a first stream containing vapor derived from the effluent withdrawn from the reactor with a feed stream to the reactor. The first stream which has the majority of the vaporized components of the liquid medium in the effluent withdrawn from the reactor is brought into contact with the feedstream to the reactor at a pressure of 0.5 MPa or above and/or the first stream is separated from the polymer withdrawn from the reactor at a pressure of 0.5 MPa or above.

Polymerisation process

Polymerization process in a loop reactor of an olefin monomer optionally together with an olefin commoner in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in a diluent to produce a slurry containing solid particulate olefin polymer and the diluent. The Froude number is maintained in the range of 2-15.

Slurry phase polymerisation process

Process for introducing a fresh feed of fresh comonomer and/or fresh inert hydrocarbon to a polymerization reactor which is part of a polymerization process having high and low pressure recovery systems, the high pressure recovery system being at a pressure of 0.5 MPa (5 bar) or above and the low pressure recovery system being at a pressure of less than 0.5 MPa (5 bar). The process includes passing the fresh feed and a process stream containing a first component of hydrogen, nitrogen and/or methane and a second component of a monomer to a separator which is part of the low pressure recovery system and is at a pressure of 0.4 MPa or less to produce a first stream containing a majority of the first component and a second stream containing the second component and a majority of the fresh feed, and passing the second stream to the polymerization reactor.

Polymerization process

Process for maintaining a continuous gas-phase (co-) polymerization of olefins in a large fluidized bed reactor in a homogeneous mode while operating at high space time yield and condensation rate in the presence of a polymerization catalyst.

Polymerisation control process

Polymerization process including polymerizing a monomer and a comonomer in a polymerization reaction, withdrawing an effluent stream containing solid polymer and a mixture of unreacted monomer and unreacted comonomer, and passing the effluent to a high pressure recovery system having (a) a high pressure separation step for separating vapor containing unreacted monomer and unreacted comonomer from the solids, and (b) a high pressure recycle system for recycling a portion of the vapor to the polymerization reaction, passing the solids from the high pressure recovery system to a low pressure recovery system having (a) a low pressure separation step for separating further unreacted monomer and unreacted comonomer from the solids, and (b) a low pressure recycle system for recycling at least a portion of the unreacted monomer and unreacted comonomer to the polymerization reaction. A portion of the vapor separated in step 2(a) is passed to the low pressure recovery system.

Process for polymerizing ethylene in a reactor system containing one or more reactors in series, having a characteristic such that the average polymerization productivity [kgPE/kgcata] per unit ethylene per hour a1 during operation at any first residence time r1 is less than 1.7 (a2r2&#x2212;a1r1)/(r2&#x2212;r1), where a2 is the average polymerization productivity [kgPE/kgcata] per unit ethylene per hour during operation at any second residence time r2 where r2&#x3e;r1, a2 and r2 being measured either in the same reactor in the case of a single reactor polymerization, or in a reactor subsequent to the reactor in which a1 and r1 are measured in the case where the polymerization takes place in more than one reactor. The specific yield of the reactor system is greater than 0.3 tonnes/m. Operating the system under the above conditions results in improved productivity/unit ethylene.

Process including polymerizing in a loop reactor an olefin monomer optionally together with an olefin commoner in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in a diluent to produce a slurry comprising solid particulate olefin polymer and the diluent. The Froude number is maintained at or below 20.

Polymerization of olefins in a reactor system having two reactors in series, more particularly a process for the polymerization of monomer in at least first and second reactors operated in series. The process includes contacting a first stream containing vapor derived from the effluent withdrawn from the second reactor with a feed stream to the second reactor, the feed stream containing effluent derived from the first reactor.

Process for the introduction of liquid feeds to a polymerization process, and in particular for the introduction of a fresh feed selected from fresh comonomer and fresh inert hydrocarbon to a polymerization reactor. The process includes passing the fresh feed and a process stream containing a first component selected from hydrogen, nitrogen and methane and a second component which is a monomer to a separator at a pressure of 0.4 MPa (4 bar) or less to produce a first stream containing the majority of the first component and a second stream containing the majority of the fresh feed and the majority of the second component, and passing the second stream to the polymerization reactor.

Process for introduction of liquid feeds to a polymerization process

Process for polymerizing in a loop reactor an olefin monomer optionally together with an olefin comonomer in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in a diluent to produce a slurry including solid particulate olefin polymer and the diluent. The Froude number is in the range 3 to 10, the internal diameter of the loop reactor is over 600 millimeters, the solids concentration of the slurry in the loop reactor is above 20% by volume and, when the polymer produced is polyethylene and the diluent is an alkane, the solids concentration is above 40 wt % based on the total weight of the slurry.

Polymerization process in a slurry loop reactor having a slurry loop reaction zone with a volume of at least 50 mand an internal diameter (D) of 50 cm or greater, a feed inlet for monomers and diluent, a catalyst inlet for polymerisation catalyst, and a discharge conduit for removal of polymer. Monomer, diluent and catalyst are passed into the reaction zone through their respective inlets where they form a slurry of polymer solids having a polymer solids concentration in the reaction zone of greater than 20 wt %. The space-time yield (STY) is greater than 100 kg/h/m, and the catalyst inlet is an inlet pipe such that no part of the inlet pipe protrudes beyond the wall of the reaction zone and into the reaction zone by more than 1/10of the diameter of the reaction zone at the point where the inlet pipe joins the reaction zone.

Reactor

A process comprising polymerizing in a loop reactor an olefin monomer optionally together with an olefin commoner in the presence of a polymerization catalyst in a diluent to produce a slurry comprising solid particulate olefin polymer and the diluent wherein the Froude number is maintained at or below 20 is disclosed.

Process for heating a polymer-containing stream being transferred from a polymerization reactor to a separation zone or device, by passing the stream through at least two heaters operating in parallel, each heater having at least one transfer line for the stream and a heater for heating the transfer line. The average particle of the polymer is below 3 mm, the temperature of the polymer-containing stream at the outlet of all heaters is maintained above the dew point of the stream, and no heater has a volumetric flowrate of polymer-containing stream more than three times that of any other heater.

Polymer stream transfer

Process for heating a polymer-containing stream being transferred from a polymerization reactor to a separation zone or device, by passing the stream through a heater having at least one transfer line for the stream and a heater for heating the transfer line. The average particle size of the solid polymer is less than 3mm, the mass flowrate of the polymer-containing stream exiting the heater is no more than 15% greater than the mass flowrate exiting the reactor, the average velocity of the polymer-containing stream either at a point 80% along the length of the heated part of the transfer line measured from the transfer line inlet, or at the transfer line outlet, is at least 6 m/s, and the pressure drop across the transfer line per unit length is between 0.0125 bar/m and 0.1 bar/m.
