Embodiments of software-supervised pairing processes are provided. The processes enable a user to pair a mouse and keyboard with a Bluetooth transceiver without having to use a second mouse and keyboard. At least two separate processes are provided, including a long transition for initial pairing or re-pairing and a short transition for re-establishing a connection after devices have already been paired.

Methods and systems for controlling access of application programs to an adaptive input device are described herein. One exemplary computing system includes an application programming interface executable on a computing device for controlling said access to an adaptive input device having a plurality of display regions. The application programming interface is configured to receive a display request from one of the application programs to display formatted output on the composite display and is further configured to apply at least a display sharing policy based on application-specific policy settings received from the application program for defining an application-specific area including at least one of the display regions. Further, the application programming interface is configured to generate formatted output based on the application-specific policy settings, and to send the formatted output to the application-specific area for display. The application-specific policy settings include a shared display mode and an exclusive display mode.

A control system comprises a control device comprising a programmable macro button, a memory containing view change settings, a driver program and a microprocessor. The driver program includes a view change output that is produced in response to actuation of the macro button and is based on the view change settings. The microprocessor is configured to move the orientation of the character view of the game environment from a beginning orientation to an ending orientation in response to the view change output. Also disclosed is a method of using a control system to move an orientation of a character view of a game environment in a video game.

A computing system with an adaptive input mechanism that facilitates intuitive and powerful user/computer interaction is disclosed. One example embodiment includes a logic subsystem, a display link configured to connect a display subsystem to the logic subsystem, and an adaptive device link configured to operatively couple an adaptive device to the logic subsystem. The embodiment further includes an active desktop to host an active application and present the active application on the display subsystem, the active application having active focus. An active-desktop director may pass non-adaptive-device input to the active application having active focus. The embodiment further includes a hidden desktop to host a hidden application having hidden focus specific to the adaptive device while the active application has active focus on the active desktop. A hidden-desktop director may route adaptive-device input to the hidden application having hidden focus.
