A portable air cooking apparatus for use in cooking ovens to create air currents which transfer heat to cooking food stuffs to promote more rapid and more uniform cooking or baking as described. The portable air circulating apparatus is intended to sit on the top cooking rack of a conventional oven and blow air down on food being cooked beneath it on the lower rack.

In accordance with the present invention, a plasma arc torch contact starting system has a torch head having an electrically conductive plasma exit nozzle at one end and a pilot arc chamber within the torch head immediately adjacent the plasma exit nozzle. An electrode is mounted in the torch head for movement relative to the nozzle. An arc-drawing mechanism is operably connected to but substantially thermally isolated from the electrode and the torch head for biasing the electrode into contact with the nozzle and for displacing the electrode from the nozzle to draw a pilot arc in the pilot arc chamber.

A plasma arc cutting torch embodying an electrode having a swirl tube and a nozzle thereabout, a spring mechanism bearing on the swirl tube and nozzle being caused by them to complete a circuit, the circuit not becoming completed in the absence of one of or both the swirl tube and nozzle.

In connection with a plasma arc metal cutting apparatus, an electrode having vertical movement within a nozzle, said nozzle having a gas supply passing therethrough, an over-center spring mechanism holding the electrode in one operating position, a switch in one position energizing the electrode in engagement with the nozzle and said switch in a second position actuating the spring mechanism to snap the electrode to a position away from engagement with the nozzle and thus draw an arc between the electrode and the nozzle, the arc comprising a plasma flame to cut materials.
