Drip chamber detection assemblies for intravenous sets used with an infusion pump are provided. A drip chamber detection assembly includes a sensor coupled to a drip chamber. The sensor is positioned to generate signals related to the fluid level within the drip chamber. The signal data is transmitted to an infusion pump or a controller. A fluid level status or condition is determined and used for closed loop control of the infusion system, which generates an alarm and/or stops the infusion pump based on abnormal conditions. Methods of operating drip chamber detection assemblies are also provided.

A locking cap assembly includes an upper housing; a lower housing rotatably connected to the upper housing and configured to be fitted onto a container; a near field communication (NFC) module configured to wirelessly receive a NFC input; an inductive charging coil; a microprocessor; and a latching mechanism, the latching mechanism includes a locking latch configured to prevent the upper housing and the lower housing from rotating with respect to each other; and an electrical actuation component configured to lock and unlock the latch and a current generated by the inductive charging coil. The lower housing includes a plurality of locking vanes within the lower housing, the locking vanes being configured to variably define an inner diameter size of the lower housing responsive to a rotation of the upper housing with respect to the lower housing when the lower housing is mechanically engaged with the container.

An infusion control test system includes a patient bio-simulator configured to generate first simulated biophysical data; an infusion control system configured to determine a first infusion profile in response to the first simulated biophysical data; and an infusion pump simulator configured to simulate a first administration of medication according to the first infusion profile. The patient bio-simulator is further configured to: simulate a patient response to the simulated first administration of medication; and generate second simulated biophysical data by adjusting the first simulated biophysical data according to the patient response.

An electronic tag includes a housing; a processor within the housing; a transceiver configured within the housing and coupled to the processor; a display coupled to the housing and the processor, and configured to display information received via the transceiver; a clamping mechanism coupled to the housing and configured to secure the electronic tag to an intravenous (IV) tubing; and a sensor configured within the housing, and configured to measure a property of a fluid in an IV tubing at a location of the clamping mechanism.

Electronic tags for associating and identifying intravenous administration lines

A wasting station for receiving a wasted medication from a medication dispenser is provided. The wasting station includes a base and a locking mechanism. The base includes a weight sensor to measure a weight of a waste container supported by the base. The wasting station can determine, based on the measured weight, a volume of the wasted medication positioned within the waste container. The locking mechanism includes a first end coupled to the base. The locking mechanism also includes a second end coupled to the waste container when the locking mechanism is in a first position and decoupled from the waste container when the locking mechanism moves from the first position to a second position, thereby allowing for removal of the waste container.

Wasting station for medications

A system and method for operating an analgesia administration system is disclosed. A control device is associated with a drug delivery device and configured to receive a first user input including at least a portion of a fingerprint of a patient, together with a second user input corresponding to a request to administer medication. The portion of the fingerprint is compared with previously-stored fingerprints to determine an identity of the patient and, in response to receiving the second user input and determining that the patient is an authorized user, one or more sensors are used to obtain one or more signals indicative of a state of the patient. If the state of the patient satisfies a set of medication delivery criteria, the drug delivery device is caused to administer a predefined amount of medication to the patient.

Secure patient-controlled analgesia

A valve for controlling delivery of fluid includes a valve seat comprising a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, a well having a passage, and a valve membrane comprising a conical portion having a base and a tip. The conical portion is configured to fit within the passage of the valve seat. The valve membrane is configured to fluidly connect the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet when the valve membrane is in an undeformed position and fluidly disconnect the fluid inlet from the fluid outlet when the valve membrane is in a radially deformed position.

Deformable valve mechanism for controlling fluid delivery

A retrograde disposable intravenous (IV) set is disclosed. The IV set includes a diverter housing between upper and lower portions of a fluid line, the diverter housing including a lower end and an upper end extending away from the lower end and the fluid line to a syringe port located in the upper end, and a diverter member within the diverter housing and configured to move within the diverter housing from a first position, at which a first opening through the diverter member forms a first fluid pathway between the upper portion and the lower portion of the fluid line, to a second position, at which the first fluid pathway is blocked and a second fluid pathway is formed between the upper portion of the fluid line and a syringe port. Retrograde infusion may occur when the diverter member is in the second position.

Disposable intravenous (IV) set with flow control valve

An integrated intravenous (IV) administration set includes a flow stop having a tubing fitment and a housing, the flow stop configured, in a first position, to prevent a flow of a fluid through the tubing, and in a second position, to permit the flow of the fluid through the tubing, the tubing fitment comprising a protrusion configured to receive a tubing. The IV administration set also includes an electronic flow sensor disposed within the housing, the electronic flow sensor configured to measure a flow of a fluid in the tubing, and one or more conductive connections configured within the housing and configured to provide electrical power to the electronic flow sensor. The flow stop is shaped to be loaded and engaged to a receptacle of an infusion device, and shaped to cause, when loaded and engaged, the one or more conductive connections to engage with a corresponding conductive connection provided by the infusion device to activate the flow sensor based on a power flow from the infusion device.

Integrated liquid flow closed loop sensing and control

A syringe pump can be operated to produce fluid flow from a syringe installed therein. Features of the pump can produce a desired rapid commencement of flow followed by smooth delivery uninterrupted by stiction-induced slowing and acceleration. A stiff drivetrain can facilitate detection of excessive forces indicative of friction at a stopper-wall interface. The motor drive, gearing, and control parameters can enable customized acceleration patterns to determine optimal initial stage advancement to provide fluid delivery. These patterns can minimize or eliminate the delay in commencement of flow by overcoming both mechanical slack remaining and syringe stopper slack. To avoid flow irregularities produced by stiction forces in the stopper further, a mechanical vibration can be provided to the syringe and/or barrel to introduce movement of the stopper-wall interface, reducing the creation of high static friction coefficients.

A pump cassette body for detecting air bubbles in a fluid pathway, comprises an upstanding flow director vane, a fitment integrally molded into the pump cassette body, wherein the fitment comprises a base integrally molded into the pump cassette body, an elastomeric member attached to the base, and a housing at least partially surrounding the elastomeric member, wherein the elastomeric member is co-molded to the housing.

Air in-line sensing system for IV infusion lines

A pumping mechanism includes a plurality of peristaltic pumping actuators to compress adjacent portions of a first portion of an at least partially compressible pumping element having an inlet that is upstream of an outlet. The plurality of pumping actuators further reciprocate at a common drive frequency with a first phase offset between each adjacent pair of pumping actuators. The pumping mechanism also includes one compensation actuator to compress a second portion of the compressible pumping element disposed between the first portion and the outlet. The compensation actuator reciprocates at an optimal displacement and at a modulation frequency that is an integer multiple of the fundamental drive frequency and with a second phase offset between the compensation actuator and the adjacent pumping actuator.

System and method for improved flow uniformity in a peristaltic pump mechanism

A valve for controlling delivery of fluid includes a valve seat comprising a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet and a conical well having an opening, a beveled surface and a bottom, and a valve membrane comprising a conical potion having a base and a tip. The conical portion is configured to fit within the conical well of the valve seat. The valve membrane is configured to fluidly connect the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet when the valve membrane is in an undeformed position and fluidly disconnect the fluid inlet from the fluid outlet when the valve membrane is in a radially deformed position.

Systems and methods are provided for intermittent microinfusion. A system may include a pump and an IV set that includes a y-port valve disposed below a pump interface portion of the IV tubing. The y-port valve may include an internal valve member that allows fluid to flow from the pump to a patient when no syringe is attached to the y-port. The internal valve member may be moved by the attachment of a syringe containing the medication to be infused to the y-port such that the fluid pathway from the pump to the patient is blocked and fluid from the syringe can be injected into the IV tubing between the y-port valve and the pump. The pump may retrograde pump the medication into the tubing via the y-port valve and then forward pump the medication to the patient when the syringe is removed from the y-port.

Systems and methods for intermittent infusion

Pump cassettes, infusion systems, and methods are described. An example pump cassette may include a rigid body comprising a frame portion, a base portion, a compliant membrane disposed substantially therebetween, and two opposing longitudinal edge sections. The rigid body may include a controllable fluid pathway defined in part by the compliant membrane and extending from an inlet port to an outlet port. The pump cassette may include a slider coupled to the two opposing longitudinal edge sections and longitudinally articulable with respect to the rigid body.
