A flow control assembly includes a housing defining flow port that place an interior of the housing in fluid communication with an exterior of the housing, and a sliding sleeve defining sleeve ports and movably positioned within the interior between a first position, where fluid communication between the interior and the exterior via the flow ports is prevented, and a second positon, where fluid communication between the interior and the exterior is facilitated through the sleeve ports and the flow ports. A piston and a slip device are movably arranged within a piston chamber defined between the housing and the sliding sleeve. The piston has a first end exposed to an interior pressure and a second end exposed to an exterior pressure via chamber ports defined in the housing. A biasing device is also positioned within the piston chamber.

A system and method for selective isolation of multiple wellbore intervals that can include an isolation mandrel interconnected in a tubing string, where the isolation mandrel includes an entry bore, a transition chamber, and an exit bore, the transition chamber being positioned between the entry and exit bores, and the transition chamber being radially enlarged relative to the entry and exit bores. An isolation device, with a predetermined length, is displaced through the tubing string to the isolation mandrel, where the length of the isolation device relative to a length of the isolation mandrel can determine if the isolation device passes through the isolation mandrel or lands in the isolation mandrel.

Off-set tubing string segments for selective location of downhole tools

A packer can include a mandrel having a longitudinal section, the packer being releasable in response to the section being severed, a slip support and a load transfer device that extends longitudinally across the section, the device being secured to the mandrel on one side of the section, and the device being secured to the member on an opposite side of the section. A method of constructing a releasable packer can include assembling a mandrel, at least one slip, a slip support and a load transfer device, the mandrel having a longitudinal section, and the packer being releasable in response to the section being severed. The assembling can include preventing relative longitudinal displacement between the device and the mandrel on one side of the section while preventing relative longitudinal displacement between the device and the member on an opposite side of the section.

A well tool can include a chamber having a volume that changes when a member displaces, and a valve device that selectively opens and permits displacement of the member, and that selectively closes and prevents displacement of the member. A method of operating a well tool can include displacing a member, thereby changing a chamber volume, and then closing a valve device, thereby preventing displacement of the member. A well system can include a well tool connected in a tubular string, a flow passage of the tubular string extending longitudinally through the well tool, the well tool including a chamber having a volume that changes when a member displaces, and a shifting tool, a valve device opening and member displacement being permitted when the shifting tool engages the well tool, and the valve device closing and member displacement being prevented when the shifting tool disengages from the well tool.
