A flashing laminate includes a thermoplastic sheet having a bottom surface, a first longitudinal edge, and a second longitudinal edge, the flashing laminate includes an adhesive layer on a longitudinally extending portion of the bottom surface adjacent to one of the longitudinal edges, and a release liner positioned over the adhesive tape.

Thermoplastic flashing laminate

A flashing laminate includes a non-reinforced thermoplastic sheet having a bottom surface, a first longitudinal edge, and a second longitudinal edge. The flashing laminate also includes an adhesive layer on a longitudinally extending portion of the bottom surface adjacent to one of the longitudinal edges. In one or more embodiments, the laminate also includes a release liner positioned over the adhesive tape.

A fortified flashing laminate includes an uncured thermosetting polymeric layer having a top surface and a bottom surface. A first layer of vulcanized adhesive tape covers at least a portion of the bottom surface of the polymeric layer, and a second layer of vulcanized adhesive tape covers a portion of the first layer of vulcanized adhesive tape to form a fortified area. The size and positioning of the second layer of vulcanized adhesive tape may be selected to fortify known vulnerable areas of flashing laminates.

Stand-up roller apparatus

A penetration pocket assembly and method of forming same for sealing the joint between a membrane covering a roof structure and an element projecting therethrough. A rigid ring is placed inside a polymeric boot which is equipped with an upper and lower flange. The ring is positioned so that an upper edge fits into the boot upper flange. The ring/boot assembly is then located on the membrane surrounding the projecting element. The ring is sealed to the membrane with an adhesive and a pourable waterproof sealant fills the area within the ring, bonding to the inside surface of the ring, the boot upper flange, the exterior surface of the projecting element, and the membrane.

An adhesive rubber article of the type having a release liner covering its tacky, adhesive surface to prevent the adhesive rubber article from adhering to various substrates or to itself prior to its intended use includes an impression or mark presented on one or more surfaces for facilitating the alignment and application of the adhesive rubber article on one or more substrates. The release liner has been scored, perforated or otherwise cut in a longitudinal direction of the article such that the scoring of the release liner further produces a visual guide on the adhesive rubber article. Thus, upon removal of the release paper, the guide may be used to align and apply the adhesive rubber article to the various substrates. These adhesive rubber articles are particularly useful within the roofing industry for bonding panels of rubber membranes together or for use as flashing.

A process for preparing a lap seam for roofing comprising applying a butyl rubber-containing primer with a mesh pad to the EPDM membrane surfaces to be joined. The primer is applied with a long-handled applicator to permit the roofer to stand during priming. Thereafter a splice tape is positioned between the primed surfaces to form a seam structure and pressure is applied to the structure thus provided to form an adhesively-held lap seam characterized by being watertight and having superior peel strength when compared to other methods of making seam tapes.

A process for preparing a lap seam for roofing comprising applying a butyl rubber-containing primer with a mesh pad to the EPDM membrane surfaces to be joined, the primer having an elastomeric solids content of from about 15-20 percent, by weight. Thereafter positioning a splice tape between the primed surfaces to form a seam structure and applying pressure to the structure thus provided to form an adhesively-held lap seam characterized by being water tight and having superior peel strength.

Roofing seam installation process

A laminate cover for sealing an opening in a weatherproof roofing membrane includes a top sheet of a weather resistant material, preferably an uncured butyl rubber EPDM material, and a complementary shaped and sized lower sheet of a lightly cured butyl rubber having opposed tacky surfaces. A layer of a flowable sealing material such as an uncured butyl rubber sealing compound having a smaller dimension than that of the lower sheet, is trapped between the lower sheet and a bottom release coated carrier. Upon removal of the carrier, the cover is pressed over the opening to be sealed and an exposed peripheral tacky area of the lower sheet secures the cover to the membrane and traps the sealing compound therein. Applied or ambient heat will cause the sealing compound to flow into the opening to effectively seal the same, and will vulcanize the top sheet to provide abrasion and weather resistance for the cover.

Laminate cover and method for sealing a roofing membrane

A liquid tight seam for an overlapping seam of two waterproof elastomeric membranes of a roof covering and the method of forming the seam. The overlapped edge portions of the two membranes are sealed by an intervening adhesive layer. A second adhesive layer is applied along the seam and covers adjacent exposed areas of the two membranes and stepped edges thereof which form the seam. Next, a bead of sealant is applied along the seam and over adjacent portions of the second adhesive layer. This seam and method eliminates washing and cleaning the seam areas with solvents before applying the sealant thereby enhancing seam quality and strength.

Lap seam and method forming same

A pitch pocket construction and method of forming the same for sealing the junction between an element projecting upwardly from a roof and through an opening in a waterproof membrane covering the roof. A plastic ring of PVC is placed on the membrane surrounding the projecting member and a strip of uncured EPDM rubber flashing is secured to the outside surface of the ring and over the top edge thereof and forms an annular flange over the membrane surrounding the outside of the ring by an adhesive applied to these areas after placement of the ring on the membrane. The inside surface of the ring, the exterior surface of the projecting member, and the intervening membrane within the ring, then are coated with an adhesive. A reactive pourable waterproof sealant fills the area within the ring and is bonded by the adhesive to the inside surface of the ring, to the exterior surface of the projecting member, and to the intervening membrane to form a waterproof seal between the membrane and projecting member extending therethrough, and in combination with the rubber flashing securely fastens the ring to the membrane.
