A power tool includes an electrostatic clutch assembly disposed between a motor and an end effector. A control circuit causes a first voltage to be applied to a first electrode of the electrostatic clutch assembly and a second voltage to be applied to a second electrode of the electrostatic clutch assembly, the first voltage being different from the second voltage, generating a first attractive force between the first and second electrodes, causing a shaft and a clutch housing to be coupled to each other when a torque on one of the shaft or the clutch housing is less than or equal to a first threshold value, and allowing the one of the shaft or the clutch housing to rotationally slip relative to the other of the shaft or the clutch housing when the torque on the one of the shaft or the clutch housing exceeds the first threshold value.

Electrostatic clutch for power tool

A power tool system includes a removable battery pack a first tool and a second tool. The first tool includes a first base housing that is selectively engageable with the removable battery pack and a first tool portion connected to the first base housing by a first connecting section. The second tool includes a second base housing that is selectively engageable with the removable battery pack and a second tool portion connected to the second base housing by a second connecting section. The second tool base housing houses a second controller that provides a proportional power delivery system for the second tool and second tool base housing also includes a second actuator for providing user control of the second tool.

A power supply apparatus is provided including a housing, at least one battery receptacle for receiving at least one removable battery pack, an inverter that converts a direct-current (DC) signal from the at least one battery pack to an alternating-current (AC) signal, and a controller that applies a pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal to the inverter to shape the AC signal with a lower harmonic distortion relative to a square wave. For each full cycle of the AC signal, the controller sets the duty cycle to approximately 100% within a first period corresponding to a peak area of the AC signal, to less than approximately 100% but greater than approximately 0% within a second period in which the AC signal transitions from the peak to a zero-cross following the first period, and to 0% within a third period corresponding to the zero-cross of the AC signal following the second period.

Portable power supply

A lighting apparatus is provided with a housing forming a battery housing and a light housing separated via a partitioning wall. A light module is supported by the light housing and includes a heat sink located at least partially within the light housing and at least one LED supported by the heat sink. A battery receptacle formed within the battery housing to slidingly receive a battery pack at least partially into the battery housing. An intake opening is formed within the partitioning wall and an air vent is formed in fluid communication with the light housing. In operation, an airflow passes in thermal contact with the battery pack from the battery housing into the light housing through the intake opening, and from the light housing in thermal contact with the heat sink out of the air vent.

The present disclosure is directed to a portable power supply system for providing power to corded power tools. The portable power supply is configured to charge a plurality of battery packs in parallel from an external power supply. The portable power supply is also configured to discharge the plurality of battery packs in series to an output connectable to a corded power tool.

A lighting apparatus is provided with a housing that includes a rear mounting platform and a partitioning wall extending from the rear mounting platform to form a first cavity and a second cavity within the housing. The lighting apparatus includes a light module mounted on the housing to seal the first cavity, where the light module includes a heat sink located at least partially within the first cavity and at least one LED supported by the heat sink. A battery receptacle is formed within the second cavity, where the battery receptacle is arranged to receive a removable battery pack through a lower open end of the second cavity in a direction parallel to a plane of the rear mounting platform.

The present invention is directed to a portable power supply system. The system is capable of converting DC power from one or more removable, rechargeable battery packs to AC power for corded power tools and appliance. The system is also capable of receiving AC power from an AC power supply and converting the AC power to DC power and using the DC power to charge the removable, rechargeable battery packs. The system includes a heat sink to assist in dissipating heat generated by various electronic components in the system. The heat sink also serves as a structural element to provide structural support to a housing of the system.

An electrical inlet/outlet assembly is provided including an Alternating Current (AC) inlet having at least a line terminal and a neutral terminal arranged to receive electric power from a power supply via a first power, and an AC outlet having at least a line terminal and a neutral terminal arranged to supply electric power from the AC inlet to an electrical device. Channels are provided extending respectively between the line and neutral terminals of the AC inlet and the line and neutral terminals of the AC outlet, and connectors are disposed within the channels to electrically connect the line and neutral terminals of the AC inlet respectively to the line and neutral terminals of the AC outlet. The channels forms water-sealed enclosures around the connectors.

A lighting apparatus is provided including a lighting unit arranged to emit light; a switching device disposed between a power source and the lighting unit; and a controller configured to set a drive signal based on a target luminance level of the lighting unit and control a switching operation of the switching device via a drive signal to regulate a supply of electric power from the power source to the lighting unit. The controller monitors a voltage of the power source and periodically adjusts the drive signal based on the voltage of the power source.

Control method and apparatus for extending runtime on a portable lighting device

A soft chemical ionization source can be small, require low power, reliably produce different ions depending on the operating conditions and configuration, and produce ions that ionize many sample chemicals in different phases in air, or solutions, or on surfaces. In one embodiment, an ionization source is comprised of a housing having a center post extending therefrom, a plurality of needles extending from the housing, and a counterelectrode extending around the housing. The plurality of needles and the counterelectrode are each coupled to an electrical supply. The center post and the plurality of needles extend through the counterelectrode. A voltage applied to the plurality of needles and the counterelectrode forms a gas discharge. By changing the dimensional or electrical characteristics of the ionization source elements, singularly, or relative to other sources in an array, the types, ratios among, and quantities of reagent ions can be changed and controlled.
