To improve the complicated painting process of large three-dimensionally shaped components, preferably aircraft components, the masking step is automated. This is achieved by printing a masking medium onto the component with an inkjet method, the masking medium forming a masking film. The masking film masks the desired surface area and can be pulled off following the end of the painting. Preferably, spray films, functional printing inks or mold release agents are used as the masking medium.

Painting method with printed mask and printing device

A device for painting a curved outer surface of an aircraft includes a paint applicator having a plurality of spray painting heads each assigned to one of a plurality of different base color supply units containing one of polyurethane aircraft paint and ink. The device further includes a spatially adjustable positioning device configured to move the paint applicator relative to the curved outer surface and at least one sensor device configured to determine a three-dimensional geometry of the curved outer surface. The device also includes a control unit configured to coordinate a movement of the positioning device with a paint output of the paint applicator, wherein the control unit is configured to alternately activate each of the plurality of spray painting heads so as to produce a picture motif so as to derive a two-dimensional driving geometry based on the three-dimensional geometry.

Device and method for painting curved outer surfaces of an aircraft

A method for accelerated drying of at least one polymer which is located at least partially on a component, in particular at least a layer of paint and/or a sealing agent which is applied to an aircraft component in particular with a different material composition, involving the following steps of: a) at least partially applying the at least one polymer, in particular an epoxy resin and/or polyurethane-based layer of paint and/or a sealing agent, to an upper side of the component, and b) at least partially drying the polymer by means of electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength range of between 0.28 &#x3bc;m and 4.0 &#x3bc;m. Accelerated drying of the polymer, in particular the paint layer thereby becomes possible from an upper side of the component to an upper side of the paint layer.

A device for pretreating an exterior surface of an aircraft coated with an aircraft-specific base material so as to prepare the surface for a final painting with aircraft paint includes a pretreating tool. The pretreating tool has a laser head configured to activate the aircraft-specific base material using a laser. The device also includes a support construction including a robot device and a control unit configured to control and move the laser head over the surface using the robot device.

A method for plasma treatment and painting of a surface, the surface including a plurality of different materials includes blasting the surface with a carbon dioxide snow so as to activate the surface to improve an adhesive strength; and treating the surface with a plasma treatment using at least one plasma nozzle following the blasting step, the treating including guiding the at least one plasma nozzle at a distance of not more than 15 mm from the surface at a feed rate of not more than 50 m/min.

Method for plasma treatment and painting of a surface

The invention relates to a device for applying information onto a surface of an aircraft, wherein the information is applicable in variable locations and is modifiable. The device can include a pad unit having at least one pad, at least one hand grip, a press-on mechanism, a hand lever, at least one support, and a housing. By applying varying printing patterns to the pads, any combination of characters can be stamped on. Moreover, the device configured as a hand-held tool can be operated by a user in variable locations. The printing process is effected by operating the hand lever, causing the pads to be brought into contact with the surface, and the information or, as the case may be, the technical coding to be applied onto said surface.
