A wireless monitoring system and, more particularly, a wireless monitoring system for detecting and transmitting physiological data. The present invention detects physiological data relating to a patient's cardiac activity and respiration rate and transmits the data to a remote base station via telemetry. The base station processes the data so that the data can be display by an ECG monitor.

A system for actively monitoring a patient includes at least one body-worn monitoring device that has at least one sensor capable of measuring at least one physiologic parameter and detecting at least one predetermined event. At least one intermediary device is, linked to the body-worn monitoring device by means of a first wireless network and at least one respondent device is linked to said at least one intermediary device by a second wireless network wherein the respondent device is programmed to perform a specified function automatically when the at least one predetermined event is realized. The monitoring device operates to periodically transmit patient status data to the intermediary device but the system predominantly operates in a quiet state, providing very low power consumption.

A method and system for wireless ECG monitoring is provided. An electrode connector, transmitter and receiver operate with existing electrodes and ECG monitors. The electrode connector includes connectors for attaching to disposable or reusable single electrodes. The transmitter transmits the signals from the electrodes to the receiver. The receiver passes the electrode signals to the ECG monitor for processing. ECG monitors used with an electrical conductor, for example wire connections to electrodes, are connected with the receiver, avoiding the purchase of a new monitor. Any legacy ECG monitor, including different ECG monitors, connects with the receiver using the ECG monitor's lead-wires. The ECG monitor operates as if directly connected to the electrodes without the problems discussed above associated with wires running from the ECG monitor to the patient.

Wireless electrocardiograph system and method

The present invention detects electrical signals from a patient's heart and transmits the signals digitally to a remote base station via telemetry. A user interface including a keypad (926) is carried on the body and coupled to the connector. An identity circuit (904) is coupled to the connector. The identity circuit can be a GSM SIM. The card can include an aperture (924) for alignment with a display on a device with which the card is used.

User interface card for use with a device

A compact portable communication device (100, 700, 900, 1500) has a first housing section (110, 707, 910) and a second housing section (112, 702, 1512). A mechanical connector (314) connects the housing sections such that they move between a closed storage position and an open use position. The housing sections each engage the removable user interface card when attached in the open use position. The communication device can operate in the closed storage position to receive pages and radiotelephone calls. The communication device (100, 700, 900, 1500) is opened to receive a call. When opened, a removable user interface card (300, 922, 1100) having a keypad (302) thereon, can be inserted. The keypad (302) is used to enter a telephone number for an outgoing call.
