A guide having a tubular body with an inner and outer sleeve each coupled with the tubular body at their uphole end and a downhole end having a slanted face, each of the inner and outer sleeves being slideable relative one another. A hydraulic is formed between each of the first and second sleeves and containing a hydraulic fluid. The first and second sleeves are transitionable between a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein in the first configuration the downhole end of the second sleeve is extended beyond the downhole end of the first sleeve, and in the second configuration the downhole end of the first sleeve is extended beyond the lower end of the second sleeve. The slanted face of each of the first sleeve and the second sleeves oriented facing different circumferential directions to facilitate engagement with a downhole tool.

Perturbation based well path reconstruction

A guide assembly comprises a grooved mandrel having a first end adapted for coupling or connecting, a second end, and having a spiral groove and a set of ring grooves on an external surface of the grooved mandrel. The guide assembly comprises a guide shoe concentric to at least the second end of the grooved mandrel and an annular fastener that fastens the guide shoe to the grooved mandrel.

Single acting snap ring guide

A string guide comprising an upper mandrel, a lower muleshoe guide concentric to a lower portion of the upper mandrel, and an annular fastener internal to the lower muleshoe guide that fastens the lower muleshoe guide to the upper mandrel. When the guide encounters an obstruction (e.g., a packer bore or liner top), the weight of equipment above the lower muleshoe guide elastically deforms the annular fastener which drives the lower muleshoe guide up the upper mandrel. As the lower muleshoe guide travels up the upper mandrel, internal lugs of the muleshoe guide ride a spiral groove on the upper mandrel to rotate the lower muleshoe guide around the upper mandrel.

An apparatus for miming production tubing string into a wellbore without rotating the production tubing string is disclosed. The apparatus is a muleshoe guide assembly utilizing a short coil spring to tilt a lower muleshoe guide into alignment with a packer bore or liner top. When the guide encounters an obstruction in the wellbore, the short coil spring will compress causing a lug to be driven into an angled milled slot causing the lower muleshoe guide to tilt inward.

Downhole device to measure and record setting motion of packers and method of sealing a wellbore

A packer and actuator therefor configured for use in relatively high hydrostatic pressure environments. In a described embodiment, a packer for use in a subterranean well includes an actuator for setting the packer. The actuator includes multiple pistons circumferentially spaced apart from each other.

A packer includes one dual, or double acting, slip and a single acting slip positioned on a mandrel on opposite sides of a packing element and a setting cylinder. The single acting slip is designed to resist forces acting on the mandrel in one direction. Setting forces generated by the setting cylinder are coupled to the mandrel through a releasing sleeve. When the releasing sleeve is decoupled from the mandrel, the slip setting forces on both slips and the packing element are released and the packer can be retrieved from a well. In a preferred form, the releasing sleeve may be decoupled from the mandrel by multiple means.

Methods of releasing a well tool set in a wellbore are provided. In various embodiments, a well tool, such as a packer, is released from sealing and gripping engagement within a wellbore using alternate methods. A dual-string packer is described in which the packer may be released by severing a mandrel of the packer, displacing a piston of the packer, or by displacing a retaining device in a flow passage of the packer.
