A package and method of creating a package for dispensing a product are disclosed. The package comprises a flexible pouch comprising an elongated spout and a flowable product disposed within the pouch. A spout retainer is disposed on an exterior surface of the pouch adjacent to the spout, with opposite ends of the spout retainer attached to the exterior surface of the pouch to form two bridges, each of the bridges having a bridge width that is wider than a spout width to allow the spout to pass underneath each of the two bridges. The package may be manufactured on a vertical form-fill-seal machine where the pouch and spout retainer are formed from different supplies of film material.

Pouch with integrated spout and reclosable feature for dispensing and associated methods

A bag-in-box system for use in dispensing a pumpable product includes a carton, a flexible thermoplastic pouch disposed in the carton, a spout joined to the pouch, a spout closure, and a pumpable product disposed in the pouch, the flexible thermoplastic pouch including an outer wall including a coextruded film having a polyethylene layer, a tie layer, and a polyamide layer, and a discrete inner wall including an ethylene polymer or copolymer, or a composition like that of the outer wall, the outer wall sealed to the inner wall at the perimeter of the pouch. Optionally, a discrete intermediate wall can be disposed between the outer wall and inner discrete wall of the pouch. The system can further include a pump operatively connected to the pouch and carton to dispense the pumpable product from the pouch.

Bag-in-box system for use in dispensing a pumpable product

The presently disclosed subject matter comprises a pouch to house a pumpable product, a pouch fitment to the pouch, and an enclosing carton for containing the pouch and fitment. The system further comprises a pump assembly that pierces the pouch fitment and interacts with the carton to dispense the pouch contents.

A retortable film includes a first layer including low density polyethylene, medium density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, ethylene/alpha olefin copolymer, propylene homopolymer, and/or propylene/alpha olefin copolymer; a second layer including a polymeric adhesive; a third layer including an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer; a fourth layer including a polymeric adhesive; a fifth layer including a polyamide; a sixth layer including a polymeric adhesive; and a seventh layer including low density polyethylene, medium density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, ethylene/alpha olefin copolymer, propylene homopolymer, and/or propylene/alpha olefin copolymer.

Coextruded, retortable multilayer film

The present invention provides an improved pediatric formula and methods for providing nutrition to and enhancing tolerance in pediatric patients. The formula may be provided in powder, concentrate or ready-to-feed forms. The pediatric formula comprises, based on a 100 kcal basis, about 8 to about 16 grams carbohydrate (preferably about 9.4 to about 12.3 grams), about 3 to about 6 grams lipid (preferably about 4.7 to about 5.6 grams), about 1.8 to about 3.3 grams protein (preferably about 2.4 to about 3.3 grams), and a tolerance improver comprising a sufficient quantity for xanthum gum to produce a viscosity of no greater than about 200 centipoise at a pH of 4.0, or less. The formula may also be provided in a powder. The formula preferably further comprises vitamins and minerals and may further comprise a stabilizer. The methods comprise administering to a pediatric patient an effective amount of a pediatric formula according to the invention, as described above.

Pediatric formula and methods for providing nutrition and improving tolerance

The present invention provides an improved pediatric formula and methods for providing nutrition to and enhancing tolerance in pediatric patients. The formula may be provided in powder, concentrate or ready-to-feed forms. The pediatric formula comprises, based on a 100 kcal basis, about 8 to about 16 grams carbohydrate (preferably about 9.4 to about 12.3 grams), about 3 to about 6 grams lipid (preferably about 4.7 to about 5.6 grams), about 1.8 to about 3.3 grams protein (preferably about 2.4 to about 3.3 grams), and a tolerance improver comprising about 37 to about 370 milligrams (preferably about 74 to about 222 milligrams, more preferably about 111 to about 148 milligrams) xanthan gum. The formula may also be provided in a powder, which comprises, based on 100 grams of powder, about 30 to about 90 grams carbohydrate (preferably about 48 to about 59), about 15 to about 30 grams lipid (preferably 22 to about 28 grams), about 8 to about 17 grams protein (preferably about 11 to about 17), and about 188 to about 1880 milligrams (preferably about 375 to about 1125, more preferably about 375 to about 1125 milligrams) xanthan gum. The formula preferably further comprises vitamins and minerals and may further comprise a stabilizer. The methods comprise administering to a pediatric patient an effective amount of a pediatric formula according to the invention, as described above.

A process for aseptically processing a milk based infant formula includes the steps of adding citrate ions to the formula at a concentration of at least 128 ppm and adjusting the pH to be at least 6.8 before subjecting the formula to a temperature of at least 132.degree. C.
