A contact trip adjustment assembly includes a forward trip member, adjustment pinion, adjustment nut, adjustment knob, and spring. The forward trip member can engage a workpiece and include a plurality of threads disposed about a first axis. The forward trip member can be axially translatable along the first axis between preset and actuated positions. The adjustment pinion can be rotatably disposed about the first axis and include a first gear. The adjustment nut can be coupled to the adjustment pinion for common rotation about the first axis. The adjustment nut can be axially slidable relative to the adjustment pinion and can be threadably engaged with the threads of the forward trip member. The adjustment knob can be rotatably disposed about a second axis and can include a second gear meshingly engaged with the first gear. The spring can bias the forward trip member toward the preset position.

A clutch for a power tool includes an adjustment ring configured to move axially relative to the housing while being rotated relative to the housing. A spring retainer is disposed axially rearward of the adjustment ring. The spring retainer is coupled for rotation together with the adjustment ring and configured to remain substantially axially stationary relative to the housing when rotated. A spring is disposed between the adjustment ring and the spring retainer. A clutch face is coupled to a portion of the transmission. A locking member is disposed between the spring retainer and the clutch face. The locking member is configured to transfer a holding force exerted by the spring to the clutch face. Rotation and axial movement of the adjustment ring alters the holding force exerted by the spring. When an amount of output torque exceeds the holding force, torque transmission to the output spindle is effectively interrupted.

Clutch for power tool

A power tool having a light for illuminating an area proximate a movable end effector. The light may be mounted in such a way as to transmit light through a rotatable collar on the power tool, through or through a member of a housing of the power tool, or from the moving end effector. The light may be powered by a power source that is used for moving the end effector or from a generator that generates electrical power when the power tool is used.

Light for a power tool and method of illuminating a workpiece

A power tool having a housing, an electric motor disposed in the housing, and a spindle drivingly attached to the electric motor. The spindle includes a cavity adapted for receiving a bit therein and a window extending through the spindle in communication with the cavity. The power tool further has a retention device including a bit engaging member disposed within the housing and operable to extend through the window and retain a bit within the cavity. The power tool still further has an actuator operable by a user externally of the housing to disengage the bit engaging member from a bit received in the cavity and, finally, a mechanical interconnection system operably coupled between the actuator and the retention device to actuate the retention device in response to the actuator, wherein the mechanical interconnection is disposed within the housing.

A power tool includes a housing having a large diameter rear portion and a narrow diameter nosepiece. An end effector is rotatably coupled to the housing. A holder with a substantially annular holder body is received over the nosepiece and non-rotatably coupled to the housing. A substantially annular cover having at least one transparent surface, and an internal annular groove, is received at least partially inside the holder body, and non-rotatably and axially fixed with respect to the holder. A substantially annular printed circuit board is received at least partially inside the annular groove in the cover, and non-rotatably and axially fixed with respect to the cover. A plurality of lighting elements is operatively connected to the printed circuit board and radially disposed about the printed circuit board. The lighting elements are aligned with the at least one transparent surface so as to illuminate a workpiece.

A particle separation assembly is provided for the removal of any dust, particle, or artifacts that may have entered into the housing of the angle grinder. A brush biasing system is also provided to ensure proper and efficient operation of the motor of the angle grinder. An overload monitoring system is included to monitor the loading on the motor. A clutch mechanism is also included to prevent overloading on the motor of the angle grinder. A gear wheel lock mechanism is also provided to prevent the wheel spindle from rotating during installation or removal of a grinding wheel on the wheel spindle. An anti-locking flange system is also included to prevent the over-tightening of the flanges and the grinder wheel during the operation of the angle grinder. A gear case labyrinth feature is also provided.
