In an illustrative embodiment, a controller includes one or more processors associated with a first and second power inverter for the drive unit. Computer-readable media for the one or more processors are each configured to store computer-executable instructions configured to cause the one or more processors to apply a same fault action to the first power inverter and the second power inverter responsive to a fault associated with an inverter chosen from the first power inverter and the second power inverter, wherein the same fault action includes applying equalized torque to each axle operatively coupled to the drive unit.

A controller includes a first processor for a first power inverter. Computer-readable media is configured to store computer-executable instructions configured to cause the first processor to: generate a first clock signal and a second clock signal; identify a pulse width modulation method of the first power inverter and a pulse width modulation method of a second power inverter; identify and compare a switching frequency of the first power inverter and a switching frequency of the second power inverter; determine an optimized phase shift between the first power inverter and the second power inverter responsive to the pulse width modulation method of the first power inverter and the pulse width modulation method of the second power inverter and the switching frequency of the first power inverter and the switching frequency of the second power inverter; and synchronize the optimized phase shift between the first power inverter and the second power inverter. A second processor for the second power inverter is configured to receive the second clock signal.

Pulse width modulation clock synchronization

An illustrative dual power inverter module includes a DC link capacitor electrically connectable to a source of high voltage direct current (DC) electrical power. A first power inverter is electrically connectable to the DC link capacitor and configured to convert high voltage DC electrical power to three phase high voltage alternating current (AC) electrical power and is configured to supply the three phase high voltage AC electrical power to a first electric motor. A second power inverter is electrically connectable to the DC link capacitor and configured to convert high voltage DC electrical power to three phase high voltage AC electrical power and is configured to supply the three phase high voltage AC electrical power to a second electric motor. A common controller is electrically connectable to the first power inverter and the second power inverter. The common controller is configured to control the first power inverter and the second power inverter.

Dual inverter with common control

In an illustrative embodiment, a controller includes a first processor for a first power inverter. Computer-readable media is configured to store computer-executable instructions configured to cause the first processor to: generate a first clock signal and a second clock signal; identify a pulse width modulation method of the first power inverter and a pulse width modulation method of a second power inverter; identify and compare a switching frequency of the first power inverter and a switching frequency of the second power inverter; determine an optimized phase shift between the first power inverter and the second power inverter responsive to the pulse width modulation method of the first power inverter and the pulse width modulation method of the second power inverter and the switching frequency of the first power inverter and the switching frequency of the second power inverter; and synchronize the optimized phase shift between the first power inverter and the second power inverter. A method for opening and closing a door of a vehicle may include receiving a signal indicative of either opening or closing the vehicle door, determining whether the opening or closing will be performed by an operator or via a powered actuator based on the signal, and generating, if the opening or closing will be performed by the powered actuator, a first control signal indicative of a first position to which the door is to be moved. The method may further include controlling the powered actuator to cause the door to move from an original position to the first position.

System and method for opening and closing vehicle door

An electric door release system and an electric door release method are disclosed. The system and method may be used for releasing a vehicle door when a primary power source of the vehicle is drained. According to certain embodiments, the system includes a power interface configured to receive a direct-current (DC) power from an external mobile device. The system also includes one or more door latches. The system further includes an isolation circuitry configured to prevent the DC power from powering circuitry not included in the electric door release system. The system further includes a controller configured to activate a door latch using the DC power.

A remote access system for a vehicle may include at least one receiver configured to detect a location of a mobile device, and a controller having a processor. The processor may be configured to determine an association of the mobile device to an authorized user when the mobile device is within a first range from the vehicle, and authenticate the user when the mobile device is within a second range from the vehicle, wherein the second range is smaller than the first range. The processor may also be configured to determine a vehicle function to perform based on data associated with the mobile device or the user, and perform the vehicle function when the mobile device is within a third range from the vehicle and the user is authenticated, wherein the third range is smaller than the second range.

A method for monitoring an electric motor employing a pulse-type rotational position sensor includes monitoring a signal output from the pulse-type rotational position sensor and a reference signal associated with a control signal for the electric motor. A position of a rotor of the electric motor coincident with the reference signal is determined based upon a nominal rotor position, a nominal rotational speed of the rotor and a time between the reference signal and a falling edge of the signal output from the pulse-type rotational position sensor. The electric motor is controlled based upon the position of the rotor.

Method and apparatus for monitoring rotational position of an electric machine

A method for monitoring an inverter module for a multi-phase electric motor/generator includes deactivating operation of the inverter module, monitoring voltage on a high-voltage bus configured to supply electric power to the inverter module, detecting occurrence of a true fault when a change in the voltage on the high-voltage bus is greater than a predetermined threshold, and detecting occurrence of a false fault when the change in the voltage on the high-voltage bus is less than the predetermined threshold.

Method and apparatus for detecting a desaturation fault in an inverter module

Systems and apparatus are provided for a control module for operating an inverter in a vehicle. A control module comprises a first circuit card assembly and a microprocessor mounted on the first circuit card assembly. The microprocessor is configured to determine a phase modulation command for a first motor phase and determine a modulation criterion for the inverter. An integrated circuit is communicatively coupled to the microprocessor. The integrated circuit is configured to generate a first modulation signal based on the phase modulation command and the modulation criterion and generate a second modulation signal based on the phase modulation command and the modulation criterion.

Control module for dynamic operation of a power inverter using an application specific integrated circuit

Methods and apparatus are provided for controlling first and second motors. A controller includes a processor supplying a control signal for driving the motors and a logic circuit coupled to the processor. The processor produces a first trigger coordinated with the rate of the first motor and a second trigger coordinated with the rate of the second motor. The logic circuit produces a third trigger from a combination of the first and second triggers. The processor includes a converter for sampling the currents of the motors in response to the third trigger. The processor further produces a modified pulse width in the first trigger if a period between the first and second triggers is less than a predetermined limit and directs the converter to consecutively sample the currents in response to the modified pulse width.

Method and apparatus for controlling asynchronous motors

A method and system for operating a power converter having an electrical component and a switch coupled to a voltage source are provided. A signal is received that is representative of a desired current flow through the electrical component. A signal is generated that is representative of a difference between the desired current flow and an actual current flow through the electrical component. A duty cycle for the switch is calculated based on the signal representative of the difference and a voltage generated by the voltage source.

Method and system for operating a power converter

A method and system for determining a current flowing through an electrical component are provided. A switch electrically coupled to the electrical component and two voltage sources is activated. The activation of the switch causes current to flow through the electrical component after an amount of time. The amount of time between said activating the switch and the flow of current through the electrical component is determined. The current flowing through the electrical component is measured to determine a measured current value. The measured current value is modified based at least in part on the amount of time between said activating the switch and the flow of current through the electrical component.

Method and system for determing current in an electrical component in a power conversion system

A control system and a method of using the same for an electric machine having a random number generating module generating a random number ranging from a first value to a second value, a multiplying module multiplying the random number and a sample rate to generate an random delay value; and a delay limiter module limiting the random delay value as a function of speed of the electric machine and generating a limited delay value.
