A dilation catheter system is provided to dilate the ostium of a paranasal sinus or some other anatomical passageway (e.g., within the ear, nose, or throat, etc.). The system may include a dilation catheter, a dilator, a guide catheter, and an inflator. The dilation catheter may be positioned between the dilator and the inflator. The guide catheter is configured to guide the dilator into the affected passageway. The inflator may then be actuated to transfer fluid from the inflator, through the dilation catheter, and into the dilator. The transfer of fluid may inflate the dilator to an expanded state to open or dilate the affected passageway. The inflator may include a body, a plunger assembly, and locking features that selectively secure the position of the plunger assembly relative to the body by moving along a path that is transverse to a longitudinal axis defined by the plunger assembly.

A surgical instrument includes a body, at least one user input feature, an elongate shaft, a needle applier, and a motor. The needle applier includes a needle and a drive assembly coupled to the needle. The drive assembly is configured to drive the needle along an orbital path about a rotation axis that is transverse to the longitudinal axis of the shaft, in response to an actuation of the user input feature. The motor is configured provide motion to the needle applier to thereby actuate the drive assembly.

The interface assembly includes a base and a plurality of drive shafts extending upwardly from the base. The drive shafts extend along respective axes that are perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shaft assembly. The drive shafts are rotatable independently relative to each other. A first drive shaft of the plurality of drive shafts is operable to drive the first actuation member. The interface assembly is configured to couple with a robotic control system.

A surgical instrument includes a body, a shaft, a cartridge receiving assembly, and a suture cartridge. The body has an actuator. The cartridge receiving assembly includes a pair of jaws. The suture cartridge includes a cartridge body, a needle, and a needle cover. The needle cover is releasably connected to the cartridge body such that the needle cover surrounds at least a portion of the needle. The needle cover is releasably connected to the body by at least one of a securement or a distal extension. The securement is located between the needle cover and the cartridge body to releasably connect the needle cover to the cartridge body. The distal extension projects from at least one of the first jaw or the second jaw and is configured to engage the needle cover thereby holding the needle cover to the cartridge body in the closed position.

A surgical instrument includes a body, a shaft, a cartridge receiving assembly, a suture cartridge, and a cage securement. The suture cartridge is configured to be received within the cartridge receiving assembly and has a cartridge body, a needle, a drive assembly, and a cage. The cage is movably secured to the cartridge body to selectively move relative to the cartridge body from a closed position to an opened position. In the closed position, the cage is configured to contain the needle within the cartridge body. In the opened position, the cage is configured such that the needle is removable from the cartridge body. The cage securement is configured to move from a first position to a second position to inhibit movement of the cage from the closed position toward the opened position, yet release movement of the cage for selectively moving the cage to the opened position.

A surgical instrument for treating a patient includes a shaft assembly and a body assembly. The shaft assembly includes an articulation joint that is operable to selectively articulate a distal end portion relative to a proximal end portion. The body assembly includes a joint drive assembly, an actuator, and a clutch lock mechanism. The clutch lock mechanism is operatively connected between the actuator and the joint drive assembly. The actuator is configured to actuate the clutch lock mechanism from a locked state to an unlocked state. In the locked state, the clutch lock mechanism is configured to seize the joint drive assembly and inhibit movement of the articulation joint. In the unlocked state, the clutch lock mechanism is configured to transmit movement of the actuator to the joint drive assembly for moving the distal end portion of the shaft assembly.

A surgical suturing device comprises an arced needle comprises a length of suture. An elongate shaft comprises a proximal end and a distal end. A needle driver is on the distal end of the elongate shaft operable to engage and rotate the needle in a circular path. The needle driver reciprocates between a drive stroke wherein the needle is rotated and a return stroke. A trigger is on the proximal end of the elongate shaft. A drive rod in the elongate shaft operably connects the trigger and the needle driver. Moving the trigger in a first direction actuates the needle driver through its drive stroke, and moving the trigger in a second direction actuates the needle driver through its return stroke. A spring is operably connected to the drive rod limiting a load transmitted through the drive rod. The spring may limit the load transmitted through the drive rod when the trigger is moved in a first direction.

The dilation catheter system may include a dilation catheter, a dilator, a guide catheter, and an inflator. The dilation catheter may be positioned between the dilator and the inflator. The guide catheter may be inserted within the affected passageway to allow the dilator to be positioned through the guide catheter and into the affected passageway. The inflator may then be actuated to transfer fluid from the inflator, through the dilation catheter, and into the dilator. The transfer of fluid may inflate the dilator to an expanded state to open or dilate the affected passageway.

A surgical instrument includes a body, first and second drive elements, a shaft, and a needle applier. The first drive element has a distal portion located at a distal end of the body. The second drive element has a proximal portion located at a proximal end of the shaft. The proximal portion of the second drive element is configured to removably couple with the distal portion of first drive element such that the first and second drive elements are aligned along a common axis and such that the first drive element is configured to communicate motion to the second drive element. The needle applier includes a needle and a drive assembly, which is configured to drive the needle along an orbital path about a rotation axis that is transverse to the longitudinal axis, in response to motion of the second drive element.

A needle cartridge is adapted to be attached to a receiver on a surgical suturing device. The cartridge comprises an arced needle having a leading end, a trailing end, and a length of suture. A body has a track receiving the needle and defining a circular path. A needle driver is operable to rotate the needle along the circular path. A cover captures the needle in the track. A cage engages and retains the needle cover against the body. The cage may slide relative the body to disengage with a portion of the cover allowing the cover to deflect and release the needle from the track.

A surgical instrument comprises an elongate shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and an articulating portion. An end effector is on the distal end and an actuator is on the proximal end. A rod is in the shaft having a proximal end with a cam follower, a distal end operably connected to the articulation portion, and a longitudinal axis extending between the proximal and distal ends. A disk is in the actuator rotatable in response to user input in a plane substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rod. The disk has a cam slot receiving the cam follower such that rotation of the disk moves the rod longitudinally to articulate the elongate shaft at the articulation portion.

A surgical suturing device comprises a cartridge having a needle and suture. An elongate shaft has a proximal end and a distal end. An actuator is connected to the proximal end of the elongate shaft. A pair of jaws is connected to the distal end of the elongate shaft. The jaws have a closed position adapted to receive and retain the cartridge, and wherein the jaws are latched in the closed position. The jaws also have a partially opened position adapted to release the cartridge wherein the jaws are biased by a spring from the first opened position towards the closed position. The jaws also have and a fully opened position spaced apart further than the partially opened position, wherein spring does not bias the jaws towards the closed position.
