A suppressed muzzle brake for automatic and semi-automatic weapons provides mitigation of recoil, muzzle climb and increased sound pressure levels while overcoming the deleterious effect of increased blast overpressure on the shooter. The suppressed muzzle brake includes a plurality of suppressor baffles for providing quick blowdown of the weapon and some muzzle brake function, a baffle brake which redirects the propellant gas in a direction and manner so as not to increase blast overpressure to unsuitable levels. In addition, openings in a can of the suppressed muzzle brake provide a compensator effect by inducing a downward force on the suppressed muzzle brake.

Suppressed muzzle brake

A suppressor for rapid fire weapons designed to rapidly bleed down the weapon pressure and thereby minimizing gas blowback to the operator and to the weapon's gas operating system; while also creating a shear gas flow about the exiting bullet's gas flow to mask the flash thereof. The suppressor is configured within a generally cylindrical housing, having: (1) a central core of unported K-baffles located about a central bulletway; (2) a bypass located between the cylindrical housing and the unported K-baffled central core&#x2014;providing a generally forward subsonic high gas flow area to an endcap closing the cylindrical housing; (3) said endcap having a series of vent ports for the bypass, which also create a shear flow about the centrally exiting bullet; and (4) wherein the series of unported K-baffles are spaced away from the weapon's bore end to allow the propellant gasses to expand into the bypass.

Automatic weapon suppressor

A bore evacuator for a gun tube may include a time-delayed discharge valve. The time-delayed discharge valve may open substantially simultaneously with the opening of the breech of the gun tube. Gas discharged from the bore evacuator may evacuate the bore of the gun tube. The time delay of the time-delayed discharge valve may be activated by gas pressure in the bore evacuator. The bore evacuator may include a pressure-regulating valve for regulating the maximum pressure in the bore evacuator.

Time-delayed gun bore evacuator

A method for identifying a shock wave includes creating a grid comprising cells; sorting the cells based on their pressure gradients; and sorting the cells based on a negative dot product of their pressure gradients and their velocity vectors divided by the velocity of sound. The number of cells that are refined may be reduced by sorting the cells based on their distances from a shock wave center, and/or sorting the cells based on their mass fractions of a species. A buffer zone of refined cells may be created in front of the shock wave.

Computational fluid dynamics shock wave identification

A muzzle brake has a rear end, a front end and a central axis. The muzzle brake includes a plurality of axially spaced turning vanes; each turning vane having an inside diameter that is substantially equal to or greater than an inside diameter of a rearmost turning vane, at least one turning vane having an inside diameter that is greater than the inside diameter of the rearmost turning vane; and each turning vane having a thickness that is substantially equal to or greater than a thickness of the rearmost turning vane.

A supersonic turning vane includes a suction side and a pressure side; the suction side including an expansion turning wall wherein the expansion turning wall creates an expansion fan that projects into the supersonic flow passage to turn supersonic flow into the turning vane; the pressure side comprising a large radius curved surface, the pressure side and the suction side converging to form a throat wherein a shock is formed upstream of the throat, the shock decelerating the supersonic flow to subsonic conditions and the pressure side turning the subsonic flow; the suction side including an outer nozzle expansion wall downstream of the throat, the outer nozzle expansion wall diverging from the pressure side to form an expansion nozzle that expands the subsonic flow to supersonic conditions.
