A wedge for use between poles of a generator for supporting windings of the poles includes a plurality of outer walls. The wedge also includes at least one fluid orifice extending through at least one of the plurality of outer walls and configured to receive a fluid from a shaft of the generator and to allow the fluid to flow through the at least one of the plurality of outer walls to reduce a temperature of the windings.

A ram air turbine (RAT) assembly includes a turbine having at least one turbine blade that rotates about a turbine driveshaft, a lower gear box coupled to the driveshaft, a generator/pump housing and a strut connected between the lower gear box and the generator/pump housing. The assembly also includes a damping element connected to one of the strut and the lower gear box. The damping element includes an actuator including an extendable member and a mass element connected to the extendable member and that can be moved by the extendable member from a retracted position to an extended position, wherein the mass element is closer to the actuator when in the retracted position than when in the extended position.

A ram air turbine (RAT) can include a housing and a turbine shaft configured to connect to one or more turbine blades and be turned by the one or more blades. The turbine shaft can be disposed in the housing to rotate relative to the housing along a rotational axis. The RAT can include a first bearing and a second bearing mounted between the turbine shaft and the housing to allow the turbine shaft to rotate relative to the housing. The RAT can include a whirl reduction system configured to dampen or eliminate whirl around the rotational axis.

A ram air turbine (RAT) actuator piston can include a body defining a piston structure having an inner cavity. The piston can include one or more damping holes axially defined through the body to the inner cavity and a lock rod hole defined axially through the body to the inner cavity. The lock rod hole can have a larger flow area than one or more of the one or more damping holes. The lock rod hole can be configured to receive a lock rod of a RAT actuator to at least partially block flow through the lock rod hole when the lock rod is in a locked position. The one or more damping holes can be configured to allow flow through the damping holes in the locked position to allow the RAT actuator piston to move within the RAT actuator in the locked position to dissipate vibratory loads.

A ram air turbine (RAT) actuator includes a housing and a piston in operable communication with the housing and at least one damping orifice in operable communication with the housing and the piston, a flow area of the at least one damping orifice being alterable to adjust damping of movement between the piston and the housing in response to changes in viscosity of a fluid related to temperature.

A core for an electrical machine includes a core body. The core body extends long a rotation axis and includes two or more core segments axially stacked with one another along the rotation axis. A plurality of the core segments define notches that are axially-aligned to one another and form an axial slot. The first core segment notch has an area that is greater than an area of a second core segment notch to accommodate thermal expansion of the core.
