An electronic device including a frame configured to be worn on the head of a user is disclosed. The frame can include a bridge configured to be supported on the nose of the user and a brow portion coupled to and extending away from the bridge and configured to be positioned over a side of a brow of the user. The frame can further include an arm coupled to the brow portion and extending to a free end. The first arm can be positionable over a temple of the user with the free end disposed near an ear of the user. The device can also include a transparent display affixed to the frame adjacent the brow portion and an input affixed to the frame and configured for receiving from the user an input associated with a function. Information related to the function can be presentable on the display.

An image waveguide includes first and second reflective surfaces being substantially parallel and opposing each other. The waveguide receives light from an in-coupling region through the first reflective surface, the light received at a first angle of incidence with respect to the second reflective surface. A reflective end surface positioned at an end of the waveguide and offset from perpendicular to the first and second reflective surfaces reflects the light to a second angle of incidence with respect to the second reflective surface that is less than the first angle of incidence. The light exits through an out-coupling region disposed on the first reflective surface to output the light at the second angle of incidence from the waveguide out the first reflective surface.

A binocular head mounted display includes a frame for wearing on a head of a user and right and left displays mounted to the frame for displaying right and left images to the user. The binocular head mounted display further includes at least one deformation sensor system disposed in or on the frame to measure rotational deformation of the frame about at least one rotational axis that causes the right and left displays to change alignment relative to each other.

An optical apparatus having a waveguide that includes a bend, a first segment and a second segment operatively coupled at the bend, the first and second segments each including a pair of reflective surfaces being substantially parallel and opposing each other. An in-coupling region receives light into the first segment of the waveguide, and an out-coupling region allows the light to exit the second segment of the waveguide. A light filtering region disposed near the bend between the first segment of the waveguide and the second segment of the waveguide will selectively filter light transmitted from the first segment of the waveguide to the second segment of the waveguide.

An image waveguide includes first and second surfaces being non-parallel and opposite to each other. The image waveguide receives input light from an image source along an optical path disposed at least partially between the first and second surfaces. The first reflective surface receives and reflects light from the image source to the second reflective surface. The image waveguide further includes an out-coupling region included in the first reflective surface. The second reflective surface receives and reflects light from the first reflective surface to the out-coupling region to pass light out of the waveguide.
