A battery pack discharging device having a hand-held member and a docking device are provided. The hand-held member has a handle portion, first and second extension members, first and second conductive members, and a resistor. The resistor is disposed in the handle portion between the first and second conductive portions. The device further includes a docking device having a housing and first and second contact members. The first and second extension members are disposed in the first and second apertures, respectively, of the docking device such that the first and second conductive members contact the first and second contact members, respectively.

Battery pack discharging device and method for discharging a battery pack

A high voltage service disconnect assembly is provided. The battery pack has an enclosure, first and second battery modules, and positive and negative pack voltage terminals. The assembly includes a housing securing first and second conductive pins thereon. The first conductive pin is coupled to a negative voltage terminal of the first battery module. The second conductive pin is coupled to a positive voltage terminal of the second battery module. The assembly further includes a detection circuit electrically coupled to the first and second conductive pins. The detection circuit outputs a first isolation resistance fault signal when a first isolation resistance fault is detected between the negative pack voltage terminal and the enclosure.

A heating system and a method for heating a battery module are provided. The method includes determining if a temperature signal indicates that the temperature level of the battery module is less than a threshold temperature level. If the temperature level is less than a threshold temperature level, and a first battery cell group is not electrically balanced with a second battery cell group, then the method includes selecting at least one of the first and second battery cell groups to be at least partially discharged. If the first battery cell group is selected, then the method includes partially discharging the first battery cell group through a first resistor to generate heat energy.

Heating system for a battery module and method of heating the battery module

A battery pack discharging device is provided. The device includes a hand-held member having a handle portion and first and second actuation members extending from the handle portion. The device further includes a docking device having a housing, first and second switches, and a resistor. The housing has first and second apertures extending therethrough. First and second actuation members of the hand-held member are disposed in first and second apertures, respectively, of the housing such that the first and second actuation members transition the first and second switches, respectively, to first and second closed operational positions, respectively, to discharge the battery pack.

A heating system and a method for heating a battery module are provided. The method includes determining if the temperature signal indicates that the temperature level is less than a threshold temperature level. If the temperature level is less than the threshold temperature level, then the method further includes generating a first control signal to induce the switch to have the first operational position to at least partially discharge the first and second battery cell groups through a resistor to generate heat energy in the resistor. The method further includes generating a second control signal to turn on a fan to distribute the heat energy in the battery module to increase a temperature level of the battery module.
