A method and apparatus comprising a resin layer, a number of conductive elements, and a number of layers of reinforcement material. The number of conductive elements is on the resin layer. The number of conductive elements has a configuration that forms an antenna system. The number of layers of reinforcement material forms a reinforcement for a composite structure, and at least a portion of the resin layer forms a matrix for the composite structure.

Integrated antenna system

A method for generating an image may include translating a radar system about a target area at a selected angular rate and at a predetermined radius from the target area and transmitting a plurality of radar signals in a predetermined frequency range from the radar system as the radar system is translated about the target area. The method may also include collecting a plurality of backscattered radar signals from the target area resulting from the plurality of transmitted radar signals and forming a plurality of Doppler-based projections from the plurality of backscattered radar signals. The method may further include generating an image of the target area using radar tomography and the Doppler-based projections.

Radar tomography using doppler-based projections

A multiple conductor radio-frequency transmission line including a plurality of conductive traces, an input port, and at least one output port is disclosed. The input port includes a radio-frequency signal input line which is generally aligned with and disposed in a partially or completely overlapping relationship with the plurality of conductive traces at the input port, with the radio-frequency signal input line being at least as wide as the plurality of conductive traces at the input port. The output port includes a radio-frequency signal output line which is generally aligned with and disposed in a partially or completely overlapping relationship with at least one of the plurality of conductive traces at the at least one output port, with the radio-frequency signal output line being at least as wide as the at least one of the plurality of conductive traces at the output port. The input and output ports provide a capacitively coupled, multi-conductor structure capable of simultaneously distributing primary radio-frequency signals and secondary control signals from the input port to one or more output ports in systems such a phased array radars and wireless communications systems.

Multi-conductor transmission lines for control-integrated RF distribution networks

A method and apparatus for processing electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves are transmitted in a selected direction toward a target object from a first array of antenna elements. Scattered electromagnetic waves generated from the electromagnetic waves are received at a first portion of a second array of antenna elements configured to receive the scattered electromagnetic waves in a first direction with respect to the selected direction and at a second portion of the second array of antenna elements configured to receive the scattered electromagnetic waves in a second direction with respect to the selected direction. First information in the scattered electromagnetic waves received by the first portion is subtracted from second information in the scattered electromagnetic waves received by the second portion to form difference data. An elevation angle is identified between a direction of the target object and the selected direction using the difference data.

Split aperture monopulse antenna system

A system and methods for radar and communications applications. In one embodiment the present system comprises a wireless, space-fed, phased array of antennas including a plurality of unit cells. A first one of the unit cells includes a first one of the antennas and a unit cell command interpreter configured to receive a command, determine whether the command is intended for the first unit cell, and relay the command to logic for enabling a phase shift controller of the first antenna. In one embodiment the present methods comprise the step of wirelessly beaming microwave power from a power and control beam transmit unit to illuminate a wireless, space-fed, phased array of antennas including a plurality of unit cells. The method further comprises the steps of beaming a command to the array and converting the microwave power into direct current within a first one of the unit cells. The first unit cell includes a first one of the antennas. The method further comprises the steps of supplying the direct current to components of the first unit cell to power the first unit cell, receiving the command within the first unit cell, determining whether the command is intended for the first unit cell, and relaying the command to logic for enabling a phase shift controller of the first antenna.

System and methods for radar and communications applications

An anti-personnel airborne radar application for ultra slow target tracking is provided. The anti-personnel airborne radar application includes a rotorcraft and a signal processing system. The signal processing system includes a radar antenna supported by said rotorcraft, a plurality of phase centers, a conditioning circuit for each phase center, an adaptive signal processor, and an ultra slow target indicator. Each phase center is for receiving reflected radar signals received by the radar antenna. The adaptive signal processor processes the received condition signal from each of the phase centers, allowing the ultra slow target indicator to render tracking reports. A method of detecting human motion over a ground swath is also provided.
