A method for assembling a rotor assembly for a gas turbine engine is provided. The engine includes an engine casing, a plurality of rotor blades, and at least one turbine shroud assembly. The method includes mounting a plurality of case segments together circumferentially to form the casing around the plurality of rotor blades and the at least one turbine shroud assembly, wherein each of the case segments includes at least two mounting flanges and a channel defined therebetween. The method also includes applying a thermal barrier coating to an inner surface of the channel and at least a portion of each mounting flange to facilitate maintaining axisymmetric running tip clearances between the plurality of rotor blades and the least one turbine shroud assembly during a cruise operation. The thermal barrier coating also facilitates controlling axisymmetric running tip clearances during a take-off operation such that an exhaust gas temperature and a specific fuel consumption is reduced.

Methods and apparatus for maintaining rotor assembly tip clearances

A gas turbine engine blade includes pressure and suction sides extending between leading and trailing edges and root to tip. The pressure side includes a tip rib recessed therein to define a tip shelf terminating in an inclined ramp. The ramp may be aligned with streamlines of combustion gas flow for preventing interruption thereof and the increase of heat transfer therefrom.

Ramped tip shelf blade

A gas turbine engine turbine blade shrouded tip has an airfoil tip with a cross-sectional airfoil shape, a blade tip shroud attached to the tip, and a shroud cooling circuit disposed within the blade tip shroud. The shroud cooling circuit is operable for cooling substantially all of the shroud and is in fluid communication with a hollow interior of the tip. One embodiment of the invention includes two circumferentially extending forward and aft seal teeth on a radially outer shroud surface of the shroud extending in a radial direction away from the hollow interior of the tip. The shroud cooling circuit includes circumferentially extending shroud cooling passages between clockwise and counter-clockwise shroud side edges of the shroud. Forward and aft pluralities of the shroud cooling passages within the tip shroud are in fluid communication with first and second cavities respectively in the hollow interior.

Internally cooled blade tip shroud

A fan assembly includes a plurality of discrete platforms disposed between adjacent rotor blades extending radially outwardly from a rotor disk. Each platform includes forward and aft axially spaced apart ends, and radially upper and lower spaced apart surfaces extending between the ends. Forward and aft retainer rings capture the platform to the disk with a predetermined clearance therebetween for allowing the platform to move radially upwardly under centrifugal force for retention by the retainer rings, while also allowing the platform to move radially inwardly under a radially inwardly directed impact load on the platform, which impact load is channeled through the platform lower surface at both the forward and aft ends into the rotor disk.
