Methods for making and using vacuum switching devices are disclosed. A vacuum switching device has an operating rod for actuating a movable electrical contact within the device. The operating rod may be a hollow epoxy glass tube with an electrical sensor disposed within it, and there may be an elastomeric polymer filling compound disposed within the tube and encasing the sensor. The operating rod may be attached to the movable electrical contact on one end by a steel end-fitting that has been press-fit into the tube and secured with at least one cross pin. In this way, a very secure electromechanical connection may be made between the operating rod and the rest of the vacuum switching device, and the sensor is protected from shock associated with the operation of the device. Moreover, the vacuum switching device is compact and easy to construct.

Method of making high voltage operating rod sensor

Methods and system for making and using vacuum switching devices are disclosed. A vacuum switching device has an operating rod for actuating a movable electrical contact within the device. High voltage operating rod sensor and method of making the same

An electrical switchgear device includes a conductor, a base, and a current sensor positioned to detect current in the conductor and attached to the base using a support element. The device also includes an apparatus mounted to the base to interrupt current through the conductor when a signal from the current sensor indicates a predetermined condition. A housing positioned on the base encapsulates the current sensor, the support element, the current interrupting apparatus, and a portion of the conductor.

Current sensor supporting structure

A method and apparatus for simultaneously measuring voltage and current in a primary high voltage conductor. A current and a voltage from the primary conductor is monitored. The current and voltage information present on the current transformer secondary winding is separated. The voltage information present on the current transformer secondary winding is used to provide a voltage measurement output proportional to the voltage present on the primary conductor. The current information present on the current transformer secondary winding is used to provide a current measurement output proportional to the current flowing on the high voltage conductor.

Active crosstalk cancellation in a multi-phase system is achieved using a capacitive voltage divider for each phase in the multi-phase system. A voltage measurement is obtained for the desired phase and each additional phase of the multi-phase system. A product is generated for each additional phase by multiplying each additional phase voltage measurement by a corresponding predetermined constant. The product for each additional phase is subtracted from the voltage measurement of the desired phase.

Three-phase voltage sensor with active crosstalk cancellation

An electronic circuit, and corresponding method, for controlling the closing velocity of electrical switchgear, includes an actuator and a current detection circuit that detects whether an optimum amount of current is flowing through the actuator. When the optimum amount of current is detected, a current optimizing resistor is inserted into the path of the current flowing through the actuator, thus limiting the current flowing through the actuator to the optimum amount. This, in turn, limits the closing velocity of the electrical switchgear and minimizes contact bounce.

Current limiting circuit

An operating mechanism for a vacuum interrupter which includes a spring driven multi-linked system moving the interrupter contacts open or closed with precise, controlled movement to minimize opening rebound, closing rebound and contact opening overtravel. Such a multi-linked system provides high contact separation forces and movement to a specific contact gap while simultaneously loading a closing spring to it's fully charged and latched state. This mechanism provides and maintains full contact pressure from the instant of contact make to the instant of contact separation.

Operating mechanism usable with a vacuum interrupter

In a high voltage circuit interrupter (30) or recloser, an auxiliary undervoltage lockout mechanism (300) provides a backup lockout means to deenergize circuit contactor closing solenoid (78). Auxiliary undervoltage lockout device (300) provides a backup means to lock out recloser (30) after a period of time longer than the normal functioning time of the recloser to prevent damage to closing solenoid (78) in the event of low voltage or other unexpected conditions on the power line.

Recloser undervoltage lockout mechanism

A high voltage feed-through bushing has a conductive gasket to connect a conductive coating to a metal enclosure. A central conductor rod of the bushing is surrounded by an insulating tube which is surrounded by a tubular conductor to establish a floating equipotential surface. The central conductor rod is located within a bushing shell by sealing means at the outer and inner ends of the bushing.
