A hydraulically-driven Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) insertion tool includes a body, a chamber within the body, a first fluid port providing fluid communication into the chamber, a piston positioned within the chamber and arranged to move within the chamber in response to the introduction or removal of fluid from the chamber, and an elongated member. The elongated member includes a distal end comprising an intra-ocular lens interface and a proximal end connected to the piston such that movement of the piston within the chamber causes corresponding movement of the elongated member.

Hydraulic injector and methods for intra-ocular lens insertion

A method of irrigating a surgical site and aspirating fluid from the surgical site. The method includes directing a fluid through an aspiration conduit in a phacoemulsification hand piece using a vacuum pressure created from a pump in the hand piece interfacing with the aspiration conduit and directing an irrigation fluid through an irrigation conduit in the hand piece using a pressure created from the pump interfacing with the irrigation conduit. The method also includes increasing an irrigation fluid flow through the irrigation conduit by activating the pump in the hand piece, detecting a pressure associated with a surgical site using a sensor, and controlling intraocular pressure (IOP) by adjusting the pump speed based on the detected pressure.

Phacoemulsification hand piece with integrated aspiration and irrigation pump

A surgical cassette clamping system includes a mounting plate having a first side and a second side. A bracket system may be disposed adjacent the first side of the mounting plate. A clamp motor may be disposed adjacent the mounting plate and fixed relative to the mounting plate. The clamp motor may be operably connected to the bracket system to displace the bracket system relative to the mounting plate. The system may also include a plurality of pivot arms pivotably connected to the bracket system and extending adjacent the second side of the mounting plate. An engagement portion may be attached to each of the plurality of pivot arms that cooperatively engages the second side of the mounting plate, the engagement portion being operable to pivot the pivot arms when the bracket system moves relative to the mounting plate.

Cassette clamp mechanism

In various embodiments, a device for delivering pressurized irrigation may include a squeeze plate and a pressure sensor module. The squeeze plate may move relative to the pressure sensor module to apply pressure to a flexible container (e.g., a bag of irrigation fluid) between the squeeze plate and the pressure sensor module. The pressure sensor module may include a pressure sensor to measure a force exerted on the pressure sensor module by the flexible container as pressure is applied to the flexible container from the squeeze plate. In some embodiments, the pressure sensor module may include a bag contact plate and the pressure sensor may measure a force exerted on the bag contact plate by the flexible container located between the bag contact plate and the squeeze plate. In some embodiments, the pressure sensor may sense a pressure associated with the flexible container without an intervening bag contact plate.

Irrigation solution bag

An irrigation source identification system includes an irrigation source, an imaging device, and a processor. The irrigation source includes a container for holding a quantity of irrigation fluid and a port fluidly coupled to the container. The port has an outlet end and a neck. The neck has a plurality of protrusions selected from a grouping of protrusions. The plurality of protrusions provides a unique identifier for the container. An imaging device images the neck and the plurality of protrusions of the irrigation source, and the processor determines which identifier is associated with the image.

Irrigation source identification system

An irrigation mounting arrangement for an irrigation container that is defined by a body portion, a neck member, and a stopper, is disclosed. The irrigation mounting arrangement comprises an upwardly extending base member and a mounting arm mechanism that extends away from the base member. The mounting arm mechanism includes at least one mounting aperture configured to selectively receive a portion of the irrigation container such that the neck member of the irrigation container is oriented above the body portion.

Mounting arrangement for a pressurized irrigation system

A pressurized infusion device has a flexible band with first and second ends, a curved base, and a bag containing fluid. The bag is located between the flexible band and the curved base. The second end of the flexible band is coupled to a shaft. A motor is also coupled to the shaft. The motor is actuated to turn the shaft and produce tension in the band thereby changing the fluid pressure in the bag.

Pressurized irrigation squeeze band

A cassette having a molded flow channel contained on an elastomeric sheet that is bonded or mechanically attached to a rigid substrate. The flow channel projects outwardly from the exterior of the cassette so that a peristaltic pump having pump head rollers mounted radially from the axis of rotation of the pump motor compress the elastomeric flow channels against the rigid substrate during operation.

Surgical cassette having an aspiration pressure sensor

A surgical system having a cassette latching mechanism having two pivoting latching rails. The rails are connected to a rotating latching wheel by spring-loaded latching arms. The latching wheel is connected to a motor by a latching pushbar. The cassette is pressed into the rails which initiates the rotation of the rails, which close onto the cassette. The motor next rotates the latching wheel, producing cam-like movement of the latching arms and thereby further pivoting the latching rails to the fully closed and locked position.
