A distributed system manager may identify updates to perform, identify devices to update, and perform the updates while maintaining service availability. The manager may consist of an orchestrator that uses a plug in architecture to interface with different update systems. The plugins may interface with an update system and respond to scan, download, and install commands from the orchestrator. The orchestrator may prepare each device within the distributed system for updating, then cause the updates to be performed via the plugins. In some embodiments, the logic for selecting devices to update and managing the workloads on the devices may be contained in a second type of plugin.

Modular architecture for distributed system management

A message transport system may use a publication subscription mechanism to connect nodes and transport messages through the nodes. Each node may establish connections to other nodes, and subscription requests and publication notifications may be passed across the nodes to establish paths for messages. When a message is published, the message may be passed over those connections for which a subscription is active. A path identifier may be added to the message as it is passed between nodes, and the path identifier may be used by a subscribing node for identification of the information being received. When a subscriber notification is removed, the path may be deconstructed across multiple nodes. The nodes may be arranged such that each node is agnostic to any connections past the nodes to which it is connected, and may allow any node to subscribe to any information published within the network.

Message transport system using publication and subscription mechanisms

A device control system for controlling multiple electronic devices over a network with a centralized host device is disclosed. The device control system includes a host device providing a graphical interface for a user to control various electronic devices throughout a home, building, or industrial plant. The host device is connected to multiple devices over a network and controls the electronic devices in real-time. The host device runs a managing controlling process that closes the control loops for each device over the network at the host device. Multiple devices are controlled in real-time using a 2time slicing algorithm. The host device can be accessed from a remote location by establishing an Internet connection.

Systems and methods for controlling and monitoring multiple electronic devices

Described is a technology by which a distributed system of computer nodes that provides services is self-updated via a component of the distributed system. Such a self-updating run applies one or more updates to each of the member computer nodes in the distributed system while maintaining the services provided by the distributed system. The updating run may include moving workloads from each computer node to be updated, updating that node, and reinstating workloads after updating. Performing the updating run may include moving update-related responsibility, which may be a workload, from one computer node to another computer node.

Self-updating functionality in a distributed system

A library of routines may serve as a connection point between multiple services. Each service may be a consumer or provider of data, and may be connected through the library using a registry service. The library may include a provider access mechanism through which provider services may transmit availability of an interface, as well as a consumer access mechanism through which an interface to be consumed may be transmitted. A registry service may match providers with consumers and facilitate communication between the two. The library may be configured to allow providers and consumers to be added or removed at any time.

Provider connection framework

Systems and methods for updating estimated process runtimes are provided. Initially, an estimated runtime for a process, the estimated runtime being based on a default value or at least one previously recorded actual runtime, is received. An actual runtime of the process is then recorded and the estimated runtime for the process is automatically updated utilizing the recorded actual runtime.

A method of analyzing a workload schedule compared to available resources is provided. Projects comprising a process with at least one task are identified. A work time for each task is determined, including a greatest hands-on work time task. An effort equivalence (EE) for each task is determined by normalizing each task work time to the greatest hands-on work time. The projects are arranged so each task is at least partially performed in one interval. An apportionment of EE's is determined, as well as a total EE (TEE) for each interval. Each TEE is compared to a historical maximum EE volume (HMEEV) to evaluate the workload schedule compared to the available resources. Where a TEE exceeds the HMEEV, the projects are modified to reapportion the TEE's for a more efficient utilization of available resources compared to the workload schedule. A related method, system, and computer program product are also provided.
