A treated decomposable compound of molybdenum, which has been prepared by the catalytic dehydrogenation of a decomposable compound of molybdenum wherein the molybdenum has a valence state greater than zero or by the treating of the decomposable compound of molybdenum with a reducing agent, is mixed with a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream. The hydrocarbon-containing feed stream containing such treated decomposable compound of molybdenum is then contacted with a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica and silica alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Group VIB, Group VIIB, and Group VIII of the Periodic Table to reduce the concentration of metals, sulfur, nitrogen, Ramsbottom carbon residue and/or heavies contained in the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream.

Catalytically hydrogenated decomposible molybdenum compounds as oil

A treated decomposable compound of molybdenum, which has been prepared by the catalytic hydrogenation of a decomposable compound of molybdenum, wherein the molybdenum has a valence state greater than zero, or by the treating of the decomposable compound of molybdenum with a reducing agent, is mixed with a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream. The hydrocarbon-containing feed stream containing such treated decomposable compound of molybdenum is then contacted with a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica and silica alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Group VIB, Group VIIB, and Group VIII of the Periodic Table to reduce the concentration of metals, sulfur, nitrogen, Ramsbottom carbon residue and/or heavies contained in the hydrocarbon-containing feed stream.

Hydrofining process for hydrocarbon containing feed streams

At least one decomposable compound selected from the group consisting of dimanganese decacarbonyl and chromium hexacarbonyl is mixed with a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream. The hydrocarbon containing feed stream containing such decomposable compound is then contacted in a hydrofining process with a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica and silica-alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from Group VIB, Group VIIB and Group VIII of the Periodic Table. The introduction of the decomposable compound may be commenced when the catalyst is new, partially deactivated or spent with a beneficial result occurring in each case.

A novel process for the conversion of olefins is provided by adding water to said olefin and thereafter contacting said olefin with an acidic alumina catalyst under conditions sufficient to effect the conversion of said olefin.

Nitrosyl halides of iron and cobalt are prepared by reacting dihalides of iron and cobalt with alkali metal nitrite. Nitrosyl halides of nickel are prepared by reacting nickel dihalide with alkali metal nitrite and nickel or zinc powder. The production of ligand-containing nitrosyl halides of iron, cobalt and nickel is also disclosed. Also disclosed is diolefin dimerization using a nitrosyl halide and elemental manganese, zinc or tin.

Diolefin dimerization using nitrosyl halides of iron triad metals

The allenic impurities in a C-4 stream comprising 1,3-butadiene and at least one allenic impurity are reduced to nondetectable levels by contacting the stream with a magnesium oxide catalyst.
