A method and apparatus for maintaining integrally bladed rotors (IBR) includes using first vibration data from a IBR vibration apparatus of a first IBR to determine a set of values for a corresponding set of inherent vibratory properties based on a reduced order model for an IBR type to which the first IBR belongs. Shape data indicating an initial shape of a surface of a first blade is used, with repair data that indicates a candidate repair to form a restored shape, to determine a change in a value of an inherent blade section vibratory property of the set of inherent vibratory properties. A condition of the first IBR is determined based at least in part on the change in the value of the inherent blade section vibratory property. The first IBR is maintained based on the condition.

Techniques for automated maintenance of integrally bladed rotors

A gas turbine engine component (), including: a surface () subject to loss caused by a wear instrument during operation of the component in a gas turbine engine and a performance feature () associated with the surface. The surface and the performance feature interact in a manner that changes with the loss such that a change in performance of the gas turbine engine resulting from the loss is mitigated.

A method, including: detecting in a nondestructive manner a marker () that is fully submerged in a substrate () to obtain spatial information about the marker; detecting in a nondestructive manner the marker after a period of time to obtain a change in the spatial information; and using the change in the spatial information to determine a change in a dimension () of the substrate. The method may be used to measure creep in a gas turbine engine component.

Nondestructive detection of dimensional changes in a substrate using subsurface markers

An apparatus having a slidable seal and related methods to prevent leakage of hydrogen gas or other fluids in a power generator is provided. The seal can connect to a high-current conductor when slidably contacting the surface of a fluid channel formed around the conductor. The seal slidably moves relative to and maintains contact with the surface of the fluid channel. The seal preferably includes a seal body having an abrasion abatement layer of soft metal to prevent abrasions of the seal surface as it slidably moves relative to the fluid channel. The seal can include at least one sealing gasket positioned to fit within a sealing gland formed in the fluid channel. Alternatively, the seal can have at least one sealing gasket positioned in a sealing gasket formed in the seal body and an insulating gasket positioned to restrict the flow of seal-degrading electrical currents in the seal.
