Filing a plated through-hole of a circuit board with solder is facilitated by an apparatus which includes a wire solder assembly and a controller. The wire solder assembly includes a wire probe sized to extend into the plated through-hole from one side of the circuit board, and a solder block associated with the wire probe so that the probe passes through the solder block. The controller controls heating of the wire probe, when the wire probe is operatively inserted into the plated through-hole, by passing a current through the wire probe. The heating of the wire probe heats a conductive plating of the plated through-hole and melts the solder block. The heating of the conductive plating and the melting of the solder block causes the solder to migrate into the plated through-hole by capillary action to fill the plated through-hole with the solder.

Facilitating filling a plated through-hole of a circuit board with solder

Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for facilitating cable plugging in a network by receiving, from a scanner associated with the network, wirelessly read connector identifying information from a tag accompanying a cable connector at one end of a cable to be plugged in the network, and using, by a processor, the connector identifying information to ascertain, from a database, applicable cable rules guidance for where to properly plug the cable connector in the network. Based on ascertaining the guidance, one or more indicators associated with one or more plug locations in the network are illuminated to assist in properly plugging the cable connector in the network.

Cable plugging guidance facility for a network

A method for repairing a through-hole includes inserting a repair coil, comprising a tightly-wound repair strip, into a through-hole and inserting a heating element into the repair coil. Passing an electrical current through the heating element liquefies a bonding material disposed on the repair coil and the repair coil expands within the through-hole. Subsequently solidifying the bonding material bonds the repair coil to the through-hole. A repair assembly comprises a repair coil inserted into a through-hole and a heating element inserted into the repair coil. The repair coil comprises a tightly-wound repair strip. The heating element comprises a segment of a heating wire enclosed within an insulating material. Passing an electric current through the segment of the heating wire liquefies bonding material disposed on the repair coil and the repair coil expands within the through-hole. The liquified bonding material solidifies to bond the repair coil to the through-hole.

Repairing defective through-holes

Methods, systems and computer program products for preventing unauthorized use of protected equipment in violation of export regulations are provided. Aspects include periodically obtaining a location of the protected equipment and storing the location in a location log in a non-volatile memory. Upon receiving a request to operate the protected equipment, aspects also include obtaining the location log from the non-volatile memory and parsing data from the location log to determine whether the protected equipment entered a restricted geographic area. Based on a determination that the protected equipment did not enter a restricted geographic area, aspects include granting the request to operate the protected equipment.

Preventing unauthorized use of protected equipment in violation of export regulations

A cooling system is provided which includes, for instance, a coolant circulation loop, one or more primary coolant pumps, and a fill and drain pump. The primary coolant pump(s) is coupled to facilitate circulating coolant through the coolant circulation loop, and the fill and drain pump facilitates selective filling of the cooling system with the coolant, or draining of the coolant from the cooling system. The fill and drain pump is integrated with the cooling system as a backup coolant pump to the primary coolant pump(s), and circulates the coolant through the coolant circulation loop responsive to an error in the primary coolant pump(s). The primary coolant pump(s) and fill and drain pumps may be different types of pumps, and the cooling system further includes a control system for automatically activating the fill and drain pump upon detection of an error in the primary coolant pump(s).

Methods, systems and computer program products are provided for facilitating cable plugging in a network by wirelessly reading, by a hand-held mobile device, connector identifying information directly from a tag associated with a cable connector at one end of a cable to be plugged in the network. The hand-held mobile device uses the connector identifying information to ascertain guidance for where to properly plug the cable connector in the network, and based on ascertaining the guidance, an action is performed to assist in properly plugging the cable connector in the network.

Guided cable plugging in a network

Methods, systems and computer program products are provided for assisting use of a cable by locating connector ends of the cable. The process includes obtaining saved cable identifying information received, or saved, from a tag circuit associated with a connector end of a cable of a plurality of connector ends of multiple cables, and comparing the saved cable identifying information with cable identifying information of an other tag circuit associated with an other connector end of the plurality of connector ends. Based on the comparing identifying a cable match, the cable match is indicated via an indicator associated with the other connector end, thereby identifying the other connector end as part of the cable to facilitate use of the cable.

Assisting cable use by locating connector ends of the cable

Methods, systems and computer program products are provided for facilitating cable plugging in a network by wirelessly reading, by a mobile device, connector identifying information from a tag associated with a cable connector at one end of a cable to be plugged in the network. The mobile device uses the connector identifying information to ascertain guidance for where to properly plug the cable connector in the network, and based on ascertaining the guidance, an action is performed to assist in properly plugging the cable connector in the network.

Automated control of a cooling system cooling at least one electronic component is provided. The control includes monitoring over a period of time variation of an operational variable of the cooling system or of the at least one electronic component, and based, at least in part, on variation of the operational variable over the period of time, automatically determining whether to adjust control of the cooling system to limit variation of the operational variable. In one implementation, depending on the variation of the operational variable, and whether control of the cooling system has been previously adjusted, the method may further include automatically determining a probability of fail or an expected residual life of the cooling system, and responsive to the predicted probability of fail exceeding a first acceptable threshold or the expected residual life being below a second acceptable threshold, automatically scheduling for a cooling system repair or replacement.

Cooling system control and servicing based on time-based variation of an operational variable

A method to reduce large temperature over/undershoot in a computer system. Using workload data, the method proactively modifies controls of mechanical cooling system to anticipate power and take appropriate actions to maintain temperature. Workload control modifies workload and scheduling to reduce power transients and subsequent temperature deviations. In addition, workload control allows more even distribution of temp across chips, allowing for even wear and reduction of small/ripple/noise temp oscillations. A system and program product for carrying out the method are also provided.

Proactive cooling of chips using workload information and controls

Disclosed herein is computer system having a first and second multiple chip modules (MCM) and a cooling module. The cooling module includes a first cooling loop associated with said first MCM and a first evaporator. The cooling module further includes a second cooling loop associated with said second MCM and a second evaporator. Each cooling loop is coupled to a common condenser that receives thermal energy from each cooling loop. A controller is coupled to the first and second cooling loop and adapts the operation of the first and second cooling loop in response to variances in operating conditions to provide cooling of the first and second MCM.
